IB redemptions are quite pricey within Europe, especially when compared with cash fares. The taxes alone can be nearly as much as booking the cheapest cash fares direct with IB!

But definitely worth it, as you say, for the peace of mind of a protected connection and interlined bags.

100%! The outbound positioning flight is £98 for two!

I paid £283 for LHR-MAD return for 2 pax, not the end of the world, but I’ll bear in mind the return leg can be added on in future. Thanks.

Electric Garage Doors. Anybody got any products to reccomend or avoid please?

I’ve had up and over Hormann doors which I was happy with. My brother currently has roller Hormann doors which he’s also very happy with.

Looking for inspiration to get out to BKK
I’m planning on a trip to experience some first class cabins. Current plan is BKK to HKG on Emirates 1st (cash), HKG via SIN to DEL on SQ 1st (air miles) then DEL to LHR business on VS
Trying to decide on option to get out to BKK to start with. Easy option is AY from LHR with HEL stopover but was looking for other ideas. EVA maybe? What do people think. I have plenty of Avios but limited on other points

I am also looking at options to BKK, i also have plenty of Avios and a few vouchers to use, so I will be interested in responses, I have flown Thai airways & EVA LHR-BKK many years ago, and I would definitely recommend them, others on here have recommended them also.

Has anybody ever claimed Virgin points off Singapore? Any idea how long it should take? Been over a week since the first flight now unless they credit them all together at the end of the booking?

I’ve seen some crazy topics here, but this one takes the biscuit. AND it was answered.

Does anybody know anything about fitting a gas cooker ??

Gas cookers are normally fitted via a Gas Bayonet Cooker Hose! There you go, hfp is full of non travel advise!

I know you need a qualified gas engineer at some point in the process!

    “Gas safe” Registered!

But when you live out in the sticks, and only rely on kerosene oil, you can cut out the middle man 😊

QR flies an A380 and an ex-CX 777 to BKK daily, both of which have first class cabins. I think you’d struggle to find F availability LHR-DOH, but it shouldn’t be too hard to find a flexi award on the BKK sector.

Hi I asked this the other day but I don’t think i got a clear answer. Maybe someone has done this recently and can confirm.
If I cancel an Iberia flight booked on the Iberia website using avios, do i get a refund of the avios and cash?

Not sure why there’s a need to be rude . OP clearly says OT and has asked a simple question. I’m the third person to reply so not sure why Ive been singled out ?

Took flights late December with return early February. Took a week or so, didn’t kave to wait for the booking to be completed. The TP earnt , combined with a couple of Air NZ flights got us to Virgin Silver.

Good evening from Bellagio, Lake Como. Nice trip over to Menaggio today where I scoffed (privately) at a chap who had booked the Hotel du Lac there rather than the one in Bellagio, he was enticed by the non-refundable Booking.com rate. Had I more free time I could have schooled him in the benefits of refundable rates and Google maps, I did raise an eyebrow by one millimetre when he said he had stayed at the hotel he meant to book many times. We are staying at the sister hotel, Hotel Bellagio, €60 a night cheaper for the sake of 38 steps, a beautiful hotel with the exception of the crane visible from our balcony. There is a kettle, milk jiggers, 16 stealable hangars and quality loo roll. The hotel has committed the cardinal sin regarding ‘eco’ bathroom products in that nobody actually checked there was anything in them, fortunately we pilfered products from the previous hotel. Two more nights here before we decamp to Peschiera del Garda and meet up with the mob, namely my 27 and 33 year old daughters, my 27 year old stepson, all their partners and my 5 year old grandson. We have 9 nights there with them, a fair description of the weather forecast for the first 4 of those days is biblical, 17mm of rain on the first day. Note to self, don’t tell how glorious the weather has been so far!

Yes, it needs to be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer (legal requirement). If you need one in your area just google for the register of local tradesmen.

With hindsight, I believe this was posted in jest! But they got their answer, just incase it was genuine, as we don’t want any explosions due to shoddy workmanship do we!

I had to ring BA (silver line) earlier this week about a booking. As I’ve been away, I might have missed someone posting this, but I was given the option to use WhatsApp rather than wait for an operator. By the time I thought about it, the phone was picked up, so my query was sorted out there and then. I asked about the WhatsApp option. Apparently it’s been in use since the beginning of April. Has anyone used this method of communication successfully?

I did all my own gas and water pipework when I built my house, then had it comissioned by a GS registered plumber. I was complimented on my copper work as being better than his apprentice. 🙂 I was pretty happy as it was the first time I’d ever done any.

Enjoy Yerevan, loved it there. Try and see the old abandoned children’s railway if you have time.

When I doubled the size of my property many years back, as well as rewiring, I installed new 15mm and 22mm Hep20 pipework & inserts with brass compression joins throughout, I didn’t trust the push fit ones, it was so much easier to install. Just installed copper nearer the boiler as per regulations.

In the process I removed the Rayburn oven that you had to stoke with anthracite coal about a day before you wanted heating or hot water, then it got so hot it would basically boil the water! God knows how people got on with them year in and year out.

@davefl – sadly just returned to the UK. I really like Yerevan and Armenia. Georgia too. Everyone was so friendly. I stayed in the HI opposite the side of the Marriott and adjacent to Republic Square. I found your trip report really helpful. I used a driver to take me to Tbilisi and stayed in the HIX. Went on the Military Highway passing the Friendship Memorial to Kazbegi. We ended up being caught in a blizzard and it took forever getting back to Tbilisi with a lorry blocking one of the tunnels. I think the roads and driving were some of the worst I have ever encountered. Hopefully when the Chinese have finally finished constructing the new road, things will improve.

Whilst waiting to board the plane back to London at TBS, I was chatting to the BA staff member who had set up the route. I recounted my journey to TBS and suggested BA start flying to Yerevan as there are no flights directly from the UK – wishful thinking, I know!

Sorry, I must have misread a post that said you were there now. Yes, everyone was so friendly, and glad you found my ramblings useful.

I didn’t mind going out to Yerevan via BRU, the lounge there was way better than galleries at T5 but I would happily waive my self imposed BA ban to come back via T5 rather than via IST as the political situation in Turkiye annoys me so much that I want to avoid it.

Did you get a free bottle of wine at the HIX? Have they managed to provide corkscrews yet? 🙂

I did mention my nightmare tours on their roads, so you should have been forewarned but Bosnia is still worse.
