Good morning from the skies above South Korea, an hour away from landing at Osaka KIX.

This is my first time in the air sofa seat. I found it very comfortable when awake. I’m reminded of Rob’s slightly controversial comments a couple of years ago, but I’m in agreement that this is honestly very suitable for people who like to lounge on the sofa at home.

The crew are polite and friendly. For some reason I thought they’d be surly like the average Lufthansa crew, so I was pleasantly surprised.

Toilets regularly maintained, which again I found surprising for a non middle east or Asian airline. Sadly the quality of the loo roll left a lot to be desired.

The only real negative is the food. Both the regular food and the special meals.
After checking with passengers on this flight and Aldi the earlier Heathrow to Helsinki flight, it looks like they’re providing exactly the same meal for vegans, Muslims, asian vegetarians and Hindu vegetarians.
I guess it’s the lowest common denominator and doesn’t bode well for those who enjoy dairy (or meat and fish if you’ve ordered the moml or kosher meals I suppose).

Interestingly, no vegetarian onboard menu option on the longhaul flight; the lounge at HEL didn’t seem to understand what cross contamination is, and a passenger that ordered the vegetarian menu option on the shorthaul flight received beef as an appetiser to go with his mushroom risotto. I’m not a vegetarian but it still annoyed me that a western airline can’t seem to handle vegetarians in this day and age.

    Blueberry juice is delicious though.
Overall 8.5 / 10 experience with Finnair thus far.

Glad you enjoyed AY! We used them (again) to get to Seoul nearly two weeks ago, and I thought they were excellent. Half our cabin crew were Korean, and I found all the staff excellent on both sectors. I sleep well in the sky suites.

We flew Y to HEL and J onward with separate tickets. No problem checking baggage through to ICN, and we saved over £200 each.

The only thing I don’t like about AY is serving the cold starters and hot main at the same time, but I just eat the main first and then the starters. Dessert and cheese no problem. And a very nice Rioja.

Currently in Shikoku, where the sakura is plentiful and in full bloom, and Western tourists are few and far between.

Just landed at CDG from Singapore. Flew AF in PE. Have to say that is quite possibly (with the exception of china eastern 18 years ago) the worst food I’ve ever eaten. In fact, I didn’t.

    A quinoa salad.
Bits of chicken in a very salty and sweet sauce with noodles.
    Some chocolate thing.
Some cheddar from Australia in plastic.

    I don’t think I’ve ever been more disappointed….

AF use the quantas lounge in T1 at SIN too. It’s huge! But, again, the food offerings were very sparse. The Laksa was reasonable, though.

I know this this appears to be quite whiney, but the food on KLM on the way out was much better.

Good morning from Adani West Bom Lounge. Pretty quiet, wi-fi barely working. One negative aspect is lounge staff insisting to taste and buy sweets. Who thought it would be a good idea to bother people this way….

Morning all! My nephew is stranded in Benidorm – how do I find out what’s delaying his flight leaving MAN? It’s easyJet/U2 2014.

Ok, setting my self up here for comments

In a good(ish) Europe hotel that offers free breakfasts on a weekend to status members.

Have stayed many times before but during week and paid for breakfast. I tend to wake about two hours before OH and get a small bite before enjoying our full breakfast buffet together. Nothing ever said over many years

Today, doing the same routine, was told quite rude that I can only have one turn at the breakfast at the weekend

Is it me or them.? When I pay they allow, and when rewarded for loyalty punished

Oh and a tomato juice with sux drops of tobasco is a cocktail and thus not available…..

Have a great Sunday. Probably will not ever stay here again

lol, I think the hotel is probably within its right to limit the number of breakfasts people have, but then again, they also have discretion around how they treat loyal customers.

A lot of places have Tabasco sauce with the other condiments – you could mix your own if so?!

One of my nephews (not the one currently stranded in Benidorm) is so partial to hot sauce he travels with a bottle.

Outbound is on final call, aircraft was there so I’d guess tech or crew related

Has anyone ever had a problem checking in an 81 cm suitcase due to it
being “oversized”, either with SQ or AA….or anyone, really?!

Quite a few airlines have an overall L+H+W limit of 162 cms, and the bigger
    cases surpass that.

As a rule I don’t think this is unreasonable, if nothing else it becomes logistically difficult for the hotel if they’ve ticked off room 219 and then room 219 appears again – how do they know it’s not just your mate on a room only rate ? But if you’re a regular there and it’s a half decent hotel I’d have thought some discretion could be shown. Also is it much busier at breakfast at the weekend? That may also be the difference vs a weekday

Food ex-SIN is often not great in fairness to AF on any airline ! But that doesn’t sound great for PE

@Aston100 @AlexG AY food is certainly better than any of the BA food. I always order regular fish dish (and you can now pre-book main meals both short-haul and long-haul in J) and I am never disappointed. I think alcohol selection on AY is very good considering it’s European airline. And the snacks on AY are also very good but I guess people’s tastes are different.

Moan of the day… November plans changed so had to cancel one leg of my Orlando flight with virgin paid on points. Called to do so and they wanted extra 100,000 points just to change a return to a one way! 😂 literally laughtled out loud and cancelled the whole thing

I like AY, but their food offerings in Business is poor imo, hence a dedicated thread on Flyertalk. But yes BA’s is no bettter.

Well I survived the much maligned 1D in old CW last night from DEL to LHR. No crew party and those that passed in the night were mercifully light-footed. I even got a solid 5-plus hours of sleep on a relatively short flight, in no small part due to the crew getting the service over and done with early. Unsurprisingly with an 01:35 departure, few people (including me) wished to partake of much.

@tankmc, it’s crazy, isn’t it?! Did you have to pay £70 pp as well, or did you book it before that changed?

Sorry, whine fest today. Once again after flying on a 777 (SQ last year, AF this year, my coccyx is really painful (premium both times). Can’t just be me?

    See BA have added:-

Holiday package prices shown exclude local taxes, fees and charges that may be payable at your accommodation.

If applicable, these will be displayed when booking.

    On their holiday finder.

Is this really enough to comply with the new legislation on “sneaky fees” (and fake reviews)?

    https://www.gov.uk/government/news/fake-reviews-and-sneaky-hidden-fees-banned-once-and-for-all

I suspect this year is going to be a bumper one for “resort fee” chargebacks whilst operators update their sites to comply.

    11,185 posts

IME the only extra you’re asked to pay are “city taxes”, which are collected directly by hotels. I don’t know about resort fees, as I try to avoid them! They are usually displayed nowadays when booking direct or via, e.g., booking. com.

Was hoping to have an offer to upgrade Amex Gold to Amex Platinum but Amex tells me it I don’t have any offers at the moment but to keep checking. Any ideas how I can boost my chances of getting an offer? (hoping for some points for signing up)
Also can I nominate someone for Platinum from my Gold and get a referral bonus?

    TIA

    11,185 posts

    Yes, if they are accepted.

Speaking of Amex offers, I grovelled to them on Chat today in the hope of getting the IHG offer added to our BAPPs. No dice, said they, but there was an offer on my account of a £50 credit … if I spent £15k in 6 months! Having just spent that in 5 months and triggered the 241, I politely declined as my spend date resets for the Barclaycard in a few weeks.

There’s a link you may be able to use to upgrade from Gold to Plat, someone posted it on another thread today!
