OH got choice of 30% off next booking or a room upgrade on next stay
An interesting thing I noted when amending my IB BOG tickets yesterday to add the MAD-LHR leg. The agent really wanted to make sure I would keep an eye out on the extra charge on my credit card and the re-issued tickets – he said to call back and chase this continuously if it didn’t happen within 48hrs. They did it a couple of hours later, but it was positive he made the point, given how many issues we’ve heard about regarding this!
Good morning, I am planning to fly to Belfast to Hkg via LHR. I will have 2-3 checked bags. I can book the connection so that I have about 8 hours in LHR. Would there be any issue if I leave T5 to have lunch with a friend and then return to T3 and go through security a couple of hours before the flight? Will there be any issue with the checked bags if I don’t appear on the T3 security until then?
If I can’t leave the checked bags, I would have to book separate tickets and find somewhere to store the bags. CX will not let me check in my bags until 3hrs before ( I think).
Are there any other HfP’ers who are going to miss Skype when it gets cut off next month ?
I use it on a daily basis (1) because I can call an 0800 number free from anywhere in the world (phoned BA and Virgin twice today, with AXA and BUPA close behind) (2) because I get 60 minutes free per month with my Microsoft 365 subscription (3) any other calls to a UK landline i.e. my Mum, are charged at 1p a minute.
They recommend you transfer to Teams, but that doesn’t help any of the above.
So far I’ve been recommended Talk360, Talk home, BOSS Rev and Yolla but haven’t investigated fully with a month to go. Any suggestions ?

You have done well to get this ticketed so quickly which is just as well as Iberia doesn’t like unticketed bookings and like Qatar can auto cancel.
I also added a return yesterday EZE-MAD-LHR and was told to expect the reissued ticket within 10 mins but still no sign. Avios taken (old amount refunded, new amount taken) but not the cash. There are no ticket numbers in the app for the added flights but there are still the original ticket numbers for the outbound. This is highly misleading as that ticket is now void! As you say, always something to keep a close eye on.

I always find using 2k points to decrease a cash booking is the best value

No this is fine – bags will go through and you’ll likely have your BP either online or from Belfast check in to just go through T3 security on your return from lunch. If not you can stop by CX check in to collect it

If this is on the same booking the bags will be transferred.
If not then you’ll need to collect them at T5 and take them to T3. There is a paid for left luggage facility (excess baggage company) in the arrivals part of T3.
No issue with leaving the airport.

He’s very responsive but the more specific you are the more tailored his response.

Also quite a few through Accor Hera, Marriott Stars/Luminous and Four Seasons Preferred. Hyatt Prive seems to have transitioned to providing % discounts rather than nth night free this year, but may still provide comparable value (especially with the guaranteed upgrade).

I got one of these but when I tried to request the upgrade on our next Melia booking (apparently it can only be done at check in), it was not possible due to no availability. Just something to bear in mind as you plan your stay.

Good afternoon from the Vienna Lounge, T1. Really open and spacious, with nice runway views. Much prefer this to the Centurion lounge at Heathrow T3, that we accessed on the outbound to VIE. Vienna airport has inbound and outbound passengers mixing, so would have been good for B2B if TP runs were still a thing.
Just heading back after 3 nights at the Hilton Vienna Park. Booked a family room on standard rewards. There was a large corporate event being held at the hotel, so no complimentary upgrade for being Gold. Took a paid upgrade for €70pm to a one-bedroom suite with executive lounge access, partly to redeem the current £200/£50 Hilton cashback offer. Quite disappointed with the breakfast options in the lounge (which ended at 11am), so had to use the standard area, which closed at 10am and was extremely busy.
Had an enjoyable stay, with the hotel in a good location. The room was quite small for a suite, so wondering how small the standard room would have been. Crabtree toiletries, and good quality toilet paper. 10 removable hangers for those inclined. Would stay again in Vienna, but one thing to note is that both myself and my daughter had our eczema exacerbated by the water.

I’m flying economy with Lufthansa and have an Amex Business Platinum card. Does this get me into a decent lounge at Frankfurt?

I have recently signed up for Amex Plat (primarily for a 95000 MR sign up bonus, probably can’t justify the annual fee permanently)
So I have the 4 hotel statuses and already saved over £100 with the Melia 3 x 20% benefit and looking forward to benefits on 2 Hilton stays later in the year
My query if anyone has an opinion is should I get my wife (who has a supp card so could get the hotel statuses too) to sign up to the hotel loyalty schemes? She’s not a member herself of any yet. Feels like a good idea but trying to decide if there’s a genuine benefit?

Lufthansa lounge access is on the Platinum Card, not sure about the Business one. If they look similar, you could always chance it!
