Genuine Q – Have some folks decided that Chase cash back is a better reward opportunity than points when abroad?

I have Curve linked to HSBC WE MC, I use this for all abroad spend and some ATM withdrawals if I absolutely need cash (I donated AUD$300 to the Star Casino Sydney last night for example). I have always tried to ‘just earn points’ on all spend, but at 1.5% cash back, I’m re-thinking that.

Obviously I try to avoid weekend spend with Curve, which isn’t always possible, so not having to think about that would be a bonus. I’m still in the mindset of having points instead of cash back is my preference, not sure if that’s still valid – I know everyone’s circumstances are different.

I travel to the US & AUS quite a lot for work, and try to fit in personal stuff / travel when I am in country, since I normally have free weekends. I’m starting to sway towards cash back instead of points. Any thoughts / advice would be most appreciated, thanks.

@Scottpat78 depends if you have a legacy Curve black or Curve Metal. If not the free card is only fee free FX for first £500, which isn’t enough for most trips.

I registered for this bank account when it had a waiting list. It’s a bit like Monzo where you get notifications when things happen in your account such as spend etc.

I was attracted to the account by the 0% fees abroad including cash withdrawals. There is even a handy currency converter in the app.

I also just opened their instant access savings account which is the highest payer at 1.5%.

They also have an online community where you can post in blogs and do surveys which will in theory help how the accounts will evolve in the UK.
