What’s everyone’s thoughts on a transfer BA11 (landing 1605) to a Jetstar to Bali (1940) T4?
That gives me approx 3h30 to clear immigration, get baggage, transfer to T4 and check back in. Separate tix. I assume all going well this is no problem and I factor in even an hour delay would probably be caught up en route…
Thoughts?
Important to do the immigration paperwork on line before you arrive to go straight thought the E gates.
I recently arrived on time at Changi and was waiting for the bags in less than 15 minutes from wheels down. I flew first so had no delay getting off the plane, however, the bags for all the First passengers were last off and we waited over an hour for them.
We had always planned to spend the night in the airport hotel and fly on the next morning and I’m glad we did, too stressful otherwise.
BA has been having issues with its A380 fleet, so this would be too risky to do on separate tickets to me.
In fact, we’re on BA11 next week, trying to get to Penang, and we decided to just make a few days out of the stop in Singapore before flying onward with Scoot.
Assuming you’re not flying out of Singapore around a public holiday I’d be happy with this, recovering the situation if it went wrong wouldn’t be a total disaster £ wise. But I know Changi well and happy with a bit of risk. If you’re travelling “heavy” or a more anxious traveller I’d build in an overnight
The shuttle bus runs from upstairs outside departures to T4
Singapore Airlines does run a later flight which may be an option too as no bus transfer required then but does get you into Bali very late (but will be a very slick arrival and transfer at that time of night so not necessarily a bad thing, there is a Hilton at the airport too usually dirt cheap with points)
I would be very comfortable with 3.5hrs. Changi is one the most efficient airports in the world (immigration, baggage reclaim, etc). If things run on time, u should even have enough time to check out Jewel and have a quick bite there.
If there are no children or old people in your group, you’ll be fine.
Have a look at the BA 11 recent history. Several delays, and one or two cancellations.
Given this, such a connection is too risky for me.
We recently went through Singapore on separate bookings. Booked the airport hotel which was not cheap but definitely worth it. Our flight was delayed leaving LHR and it caused us no real stress as it wasn’t impacting on our onward flight the next morning.
On the way back we had a couple of nights in Singapore and did a few of the tourist sights,
Did LHR to SIN on BA then onwards to Jakarta on GA, no problems and that was a tighter connection than yours.
Download the Changi APP it will tell you how your luggage is progressing (BA / HAL take note).
I think besides having to go outside to actually board the bus, you might have an easier connection than lugging luggage (see what I did there), across one and a half terminals from collection to the GA desk via the too small shuttle.

Exactly! The problem will never, ever be Changi but rather the punctuality of the incoming flight.

The BA app will tell you luggage progress nowadays. Airlines or their handling agents are responsible for luggage delivery, not HAL so while HAL has all the effectively ex post facto data for delivery times such as first bag, last bag etc. the firm isn’t in a position to tell you when a bag will arrive, even it can tell you on which belt it will arrive. Some other airports are more integrated but LHR isn’t by regulatory design.
Should be absolutely fine. T4 isn”really connected to the other terminals and to the Jewel. I remember reading Jetstar weren’t overly thrilled with being told they were moving to T4.
The Jewel is literally straight across from T1 as you leave. Not sure id want to go in there with lots of luggage but if you only have one case, it may not be an issue. The lounge in T4 if you have access is more than adequate.
If you like statistics to help evaluate the risk of a late incoming. In the period 29th July to 26th September.
BA11 operated 89 flights- details below.
89 operates, 26 early, 57 delayed, 6 ontime.
Average 25.6mins late
Delayed hours totals 41.4hours and an average of 43.5mins
Whilst the mean average delay is “only” 43.5 minutes, at least 10 flights operated at least 1.5hrs late, (5 were 2hrs +)
All data taken from speedbird.online
I would be happy with those timings, so long as I had travel insurance that provides adequate cover for missed connections.
You should make the connection OK, but you might not.
Done it many times as @SamG says, a very easy transfer. Just don’t think we would trust BA these days. So we are staying a few days in Singapore before heading to Bali on Jetstar also.
Thanks all. I think the kicker here is also the fact that realistically flights can be quite cheap so if it all went wrong wouldn’t be a huge £ hit. Appreciate the advice. I have a long time to decide so might wait and make a decision nearer the time.
