Discuss today's stories:
I booked a pair of return UC reward flights last year in a sale, and wanted to change the date of the outbound leg so rang Virgin who informed me the cost would be ~50K more points on top of the £30pp fee because of the reduced points of the flight.
Is this right? That’s effectively a cancel-and-rebook than a change, and given they’ve already stiffed me for £2K of carrier surcharges it seems might rich to demand an extra 50K points and an additional £60.
Yes, that certainly is the norm / to be expected / as per the terms and conditions.
Exceptions would be if *virgin* changed it or cancelled it on you,
Voluntary changes always get repriced. Other airlines have the same policy. Same with hotels and shops etc etc
And yes it is effectively a cancel and rebook situation.
And you weren’t “stiffed” the fees and charges were visible to you from the get go.
Reward seats are only flexible in the sense they can be cancelled for a nominal fee in Virgins case that’s £35 per person.
Any change is pretty much always a cancel and rebook situation.
You booked in a sale and now there’s no sale on so if you want different flights you’ll need to cancel and book the new ones at whatever the new cost is.
