Hi all,
I have a rewards flight booked for Thurs 24 Dec. I’m considering moving it to a flight this Sun 19 Dec evening time. I’m taking the required PCR test today and want/need to wait until the result comes back before moving my flight though. I will hopefully have the result in the morning with some luck, but it could be late in the day. I have to rebook over the phone as the flight is with a partner airline and the BA dashboard throws an error message if I try change it online.
My question is: Is there any reason that I wouldn’t be able to change my booking to a same day departure? Apart from possibly the mayhem of trying to get through BA Customer Service.
Many thanks.
Wouldn’t there need to be reward bucket availability on the flight you’re wishing to move to?

Yes, I’ve already checked and there is availability.
No technical reason but two things – 1) actually getting through – apparently you can try some foreign numbers (I’ve seen Mexico and Singapore mentioned!) via Skype and 2) ensuring that they revalidate / reissue the ticket – at such short notice you should make sure they do that whilst you are on the phone – they’ll need to call ticketing potentially

Thanks for the advice! Very helpful.
Don’t you have to pay a fee, or are you planning to FTV it and rebook?
Unless you have insufficient avios, can’t you just book the new flight directly should you be unable to get through to BA? You can still refund (for a fee) or FTV the old flight.

The change fee is £35 only. I don’t have sufficient points no. Either way the flight seems to be off the menu now online either way, and my PCR isn’t back yet. Just hoping no further travel bans or such gets in the way of my existing Thursday flight now! No other options left.

No change fees. Sorry to hear your plan didn’t work out – good luck for Thursday!
