Hoping to get some help on this one, we’ve been trying to understand our rights for flight cancellation.
booked london to perth, with a layover in HongKong in December. The flights have been changed, leaving London 24 hours later on the same flight number, but the second leg has been cancelled and we have been placed on a new flight. Not ideally, we will be arriving in Perth 36 hours later than our original booking and now have an 8 hour overnight layover in HK.
Does anyone know of what rights we may have here – as the second leg isn’t landing or taking off from EU/UK? We ideally do not want to take refund as the repurchase cost is about double, but we need to arrive in Perth at the original date if possible.
Thanks!
You have full UK261 rights on the whole journey
However getting Cathay Pacific to rebook you on anyone else is pretty much impossible and it’s a lot of money to book yourself and then fight for a reimbursement of your rerouting cost. If you do go down this route then don’t take a refund from Cathay Pacific for the original flight cost as this ends the matter with them
Do they have any alternative flights that would work?
