Cartagena hotel suggestions

Looking for a bit of luxury to finish off a Colombia birding trip. Any suggestions for a nice hotel, please?

We stayed at Hotel Aguamarina Boutique and loved it. It has a roof top swimming pool but it is located in the very centre of the historic city. Wherever you’ll stay, you’ll love it. It’s a beautiful city!

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency. Not really luxury, but quite modern and nice. Stylish rooms, great view, decent pools.

It’s outside the old city, though. An Uber into the city takes like 15 min and costs the equivalent of GBP 2.

If you want something more luxurious, take a look at the Sofitel Legend.

Alquimico Bar Was a cool rooftop spot

Oldly so was the crepes and waffles old town rooftop at sunset.

I loved Cartagena, a roof top pool and bar would be really good, there’s a good number of options. Enjoy your trip.

I think I would miss the sellers shouting “aguacaaaateeeesss” if I was so high up. Then again, you can probably hear them from the roof too 🙂

Reviving this thread to ask about the IC Cartagena. Does anyone have any experience, in particular the lounge?

Looking at a little splurge here for 3 nights at the end of my SA trip next May. Have checked with Emyr and the main extra he can get is a $100 hotel credit as I’ve got Ambassador so the other perks I’d (hopefully) get through that anyway, and the price quoted for the room is equivalent to BFR+breakfast direct with IHG

If the lounge access isn’t worth the extra £40 a night, the hotel credit would be a good alternative. Will book via Emyr either way, but just trying to decide whether to go for the lounge or not.

I would also be interested in the IC, or indeed any recommendations for any properties, as I have a 3 week tour of Colombia over Christmas and new year, seeing in 2025 in Cartagena, I have not looked at any properties yet! I Need to get cracking!
