Just had transactions refused over the phone to pay for a car service. Minutes later I paid for my insurance online.
I’ve activated the card, used it in a chip and pin terminal and online a couple of times. Anything else I should do to make the bloody thing work?

Yes, this worked for me.
Wow that call was painful. Why they don’t provide a number that goes through to Barclaycard rather than current account servicing boggles the mind. Then they could not authenticate me using my personal information; the agent was not interested in my card number. Cue 10 minute wait while he raised a ticket with another department to “get new questions to ask me”. One of the new questions was my card number. More boggle.
Reason was the “chip or magnetic strip being mis-read”. Amazing for cardholder not present.
That was a waste of 40 minutes.
I suspect the retailer just kept entering invalid data. Well I can hope.
