Hi. Looking for a car rental for a week in February in Miami. Prices are crazy. Any advise on reducing the price?
I have platinum. Any code to use with that to save on insurance?
Prices are crazy as the rental companies sold off lots of their stocks during the pandemic, it’s a worldwide problem. I would try all the comparison sites and see what comes up.
There’s a useful thread in Destination Advice (Car Hire Tips) that I have contributed to (and other contributors too_ with detailed info on getting a good price with Hertz if you have Amex Platinum.
I’m renting in Miami later this month – prices do vary and it may be worth checking other locations too (downtown branches or even FLL airport). Let me know if I can do anything else to help.

I would love to see the logistics behind car hire. I know you are correct in what you say, but on both pick-up and drop off at MIA over the past weeks, the lot has been absolutely heaving with rentals. I’m guessing they must store a hell of a lot of inventory off-site, but I expected it to be a ghost town
(Side note – I got a brand new “2022”(?) model Chevrolet Camaro cabriolet, for 8 days with Hertz for $430 – very happy with that. Only had 4 miles on the clock when I picked it up, and still had all the protective plastic on the interior!)
It also seems that there are Florida registered rental vehicles everywhere in the USA at the moment – it doesn’t matter where we go, there are always a few in the lot! Is this because there are less tourists in FL, or is there a perk to registering the vehicles there?
I found this article interesting too (behind a paywall but you get a few articles for free) https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/20/upshot/car-rental-prices-economy.html
Thanks @SteveJ – I forgot we can link things now!!
