Email received today:
“We’re streamlining our rewards programme by transitioning all Business Rewards customers to our premium Capital on Tap Pro tier.
While your current plan expires on (date) we’ll be extending your existing benefits at no extra cost until (future date).
After this (future date), your account will automatically upgrade to Pro, bringing you enhanced features and rewards.
As a valued customer, we’re offering you Pro at £199 for your first year, a one-time saving on today’s price of £299. After your first year, you’ll pay the full price of Pro membership, which may be subject to change.
This transition will happen automatically on (future date), unless you switch to our Free tier.
Your options:
Automatic upgrade to Pro – £199
No action required
£199 will be charged to your account on (future date)
Full Pro benefits begin immediately upon renewal
Switch to Free tier:
Must opt-out before (future date)
No annual fee
Note: Avios conversion will no longer be available
Basically, a price-hike.
Are they stopping Avios conversion for all users?
Oh that’s disappointing. I’ve not received my email yet, but will downgrade to the free plan in that case. At £299 you’re basically just getting an £80 discount on a Priority Pass. The hotel status you can get for free at the moment with the Club Avolta status match, so if there’s no Avios conversion there’s no appeal in anything other than the free tier IMHO
I’d read that as Avios conversion no longer possible if you go down to the free card
I see what you mean reading it again. I’ve not actually had the email yet, don’t know what’s happening there. It’s borderline for me anyway as to whether I’ll keep the paid for card, even if it stays at £99pa, as I’m not putting a huge spend on it. I’ll certainly keep the free version though and convert to AirBnB gift cards as an alternative
How does this work for those of us who have recently paid our £99 renewal fee? My annual renewal fee of £99 was taken in December and I have not received the e-mail listed above forcing onto the Pro package, so does this mean ours remains Business Rewards with Avios for now? Since they have already taken the £99 fee for the year, surely they can’t justify forcing us to upgrade as well, unless they offer a pro-rata refund if we choose not to upgrade?

I just went on chat with Megan from CoT. If you have recently paid your £99 fee nothing will change until your next renewal. For those customers whose renewal is between Jan – March – they are being offered the upgrade to Pro or downgrade to free. So since I just renewed in December, I will not be affected until Dec 2025, where I will be offered the same upgrade or downgrade to free, by which time the free card will be earning Avios as well ( and no need to cancel and re-apply).
