It was a points booking, it’s not like a cash booking where there’s multiple rates. Secondly it’s doesn’t benefit the hotel or me because they now have an unused room they could have sold and they miss out on the money I would have spent in the hotel.
The rate you pay may be the same, but the amount they get from Hilton is not the same. If you move your stay to a night when the hotel is not close to full, they may only get £20 from Hilton. Whereas they could get hundreds when they are full.
I was going to say that Hilton might pay them £400 a night for the points bookings, based on seeing non-refundable rates of up to £500 a few weeks and months ago…
But I’ve just had a look and a points booking for 11 May at DT Liverpool is now flexible!! Also the flexible rate is now £199. So maybe they aren’t as fully booked as they thought they might be and I have no idea what Hilton might pay them.
Also, if you don’t show up, then they are within their rights to charge you £199 or whatever the rate is on the day itself, though you will get the points back.
Somehow given its Eurovision I don’t think they’ll be dwelling too much on what would have been your small contribution via a one nights stay to their bottom line they have now lost!
That’s partly my point ! They could have sold the room for whatever the full price atm is but instead they have to keep it off sale because I can’t move my booking
And my point is your one nights points stay and couple of quid on a drink is chump change to them this week.
And you’re the one hanging onto the room by apparently not cancelling it even though you know you won’t use it this preventing the hotel from putting it on sale!
I’d do the online check in and specify arrival time at midnight or later if you can. That way it won’t get cancelled and they also won’t be able to give your room to someone else. You might get 1000 points extra plus 2000 under current promo and perhaps a night credit. At least something.

He’s within rights to do this given they won’t let him change. It’s fine, but then they can’t complain about the fact that OP wishes to keep the room and prevent them from selling it. It works both ways. You can either keep a guest happy or not.
Also this kind of thinking is short-term. This hotel is now on my blacklist as well and probably others who come and see this here.
Yes anuj is within their rights not to cancel. The points are lost either way.
But anuj is also going on about them not being able to sell the room to someone else – which they can’t do until the room is cancelled!

I’d do that @meta, but then I would actually turn up.
99% if you do that this hotel will have given your room to someone else by the time you get there.
btw what are Hilton’s rules for giving your room to a friend ?
And my point is that they are a bit thick here as they could have charged a larger premium to someone now if they let OP move the date which would essentially cover the lower rate/fee they’d get from Hilton corporate at a later date. There is a ceiling on what the corporate will pay to hotels on points redemptions when the hotel is full.

Yes you could arrive actually all the way until the check out time and they have to give you the room.
Edit: Hilton walk-out policy is that they have to accommodate you at a similar nearby property plus I think give you a Be My Guest certificate valid for standard room at any property in the world.
I think @anuj was fulling intending to turn up until the rail strike was announced!

They won’t let me cancel it ! They specifically said they are unable to cancel it. I tried cancelling it through Hilton themselves (to avoid the no show fee even if I lose the points) but they said there’s a risk by cancelling it I will still be charged the no show fee because this rate allows no modifications at all.

Well I was intending to turn up, after all who knows when Liverpool will have such a buzz in the city again. I’m still hoping the strikes get called off but it’s cutting it short. I’ve even looked at coaches but Nottingham is quite far from Liverpool and I don’t fancy spending 7 hours on a coach just one way. I think I will just follow @meta’s suggestion to check in on the app and cross my fingers I don’t get charged any fee.
