Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Cancelling just the outbound on a companion booking

  • 44 posts

    Hi All

As the title suggests I am wondering if it is possible to cancel the outbound flight of a 2-4-1 booking.

The booking was made at T355 so both legs are on different booking numbers (and I assume PNR’s?).

Has anyone had any success at doing this?

    Thanks in advance

What do you mean, success? As with any avios booking, you can cancel it online for a full refund minus £35pp.

There will still be a note on your return flight that it was booked with the 241, so I’m not sure what your plans are for the returned voucher.

    Apologies, this was explained badly.

The intent would be to retain the inbound using the 2-4-1

I only want to remove the first leg and retain the second. I understand the voucher would be used.

You shouldn’t have a problem with this – in fact technically your inbound would now be an outbound and you could use the voucher to book an inbound leg within the open jaws rules within 12 months of the flight you’re retaining (if it hasn’t expired).

If you did all this online, I don’t think there would be an issue. If you tried to explain it to a BA agent, you may just completely confuse them!

Just a caveat – BA has been known very occasionally to cancel bookings which haven’t strictly complied with the Ts and Cs, but I’m not even sure if you’re in breach of any of them here. It would be an interesting one to get @JDB’s take on!

@Jipster – it’s a bit messy in that the voucher presumably resides within the outbound booking so it will depend on how eagle eyed and competent the agent is to work out how to move the voucher to the inbound booking that would then de facto becone the outbound booking to which a later inbound trip could theoretically be added although you seem OK with using it one way.

Thnak you both. No I’m not concerned about having the second half of the companion voucher retained, albeit it would be a nice bonus.

My concern is simply ensuring the return leg doesn’t get accidentally cancelled by the operative!
