Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Cancelled redemption flight – tier points for rebooking in revenue bucket?

  • 2 posts

Hey everyone! I have stumbled across this article on HfP where some suggested, that BA rebooked their redemption flights into revenue classes. Can anyone confirm that they have received Avios/Tier points as per revenue tickets? If so under what were the circumstances around the cancellation/rebooking?

Being rebooked on a revenue ticket doesn’t normally change your booking class (which shows that yours is a redemption ticket), so the rule is that you will not receive anything on your rebooked flight, just as it would have been on your original one.

However, rebooking agents have been known to make mistakes. If you do get something, consider yourself lucky!

A recent long haul trip, booked as a reward flight for 2 of us. No changes or cancellations. Bizarrely OHs posted correctly as reward flights, my outward failed to post until 3 weeks after the flight, where it posted as a revenue flight earning Avios and TP.

No, all that article really means, is that if your reward-booked flight is cancelled by BA, they can put you on another flight even if there are no reward seats available on that flight. You are still on a reward booking, with no TPs etc, and if you decide to cancel it it will be a reward FTV.

You won’t get Avios or TPs – all they are doing is opening up redemption availability.

Best chance of getting credit is on-the-day changes in cases of disruption, but you can’t plan for that.

I had it happen once but it was a short hop economy redemption so only got 5 TP!

Very hit and miss. I’ve made several flights which were rebooked redemptions following cancellations, but only one ever caused it to provide my with any TPs or ‘earning’ Avios. However, less said about this the better, eh?

No such luck for our rebooking into 1st from a cancelled 241 to Singapore recently… great if it happens, but rare as hens teeth…
