Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Cancel one person on Qatar award flight booking?

  • 4 posts

    Sorry to be ignorant, I have googled but am still confused.

    A friend is about to book an award flight for us for next autumn with Qatar using his avios. If one of is unable to travel, unlikely but not impossible, could just one flight be cancelled (and avios refunded) or would the whole booking have to be cancelled?

    I have read about splitting the PNR which I think could mean it’s ok to cancel one person but I’m not sure!

    Thanks for any advice

    I was curious about this too and called Qatar. The agent said no can do, need to cancel and rebook. I’m not convinced this is true though but I did not want to risk messing with a booking online to see what happened. I read on FT that somebody went into a Qatar ticket office and they did it there no problem. Would be grateful if you call or chat to see if you get a different answer; I’ll try again too.

    Would be very surprised if QR IT was up to this. From past experiences of even a simple change. They just seem not to have caught up this way. Needs change, but they’re still stuck in simple requests achievable mode…. Was the main reason we moved from QR to BAEC years ago. Plus this emailing a request thing, unreal having to wait 3 days to see if you get the seat or not…

    @BJ
    where are you flying with QR, to BKK? seeing you are out buying sandals and swim wear. Presume back to your fav MIL southern Thailand spots? And yes, don’t risk any change like on line with QR.

    Qatar is able to split bookings without any problem; it’s a very basic IATA protocol and QR uses Altea/Amadeus where this is standard.

    Whether they wish to do it for you is another matter, so it’s just a matter of how you ask.

    I called Qatar, at first the person didn’t understand my question then said no we’d have to cancel the whole booking. Then she consulted with someone and said we could split the booking and cancel one ticket but I wasn’t filled with confidence by the whole conversation.

    Would making two separate bookings be an option?

    Oh cross post, sorry.

    I’m really confused now, so it should be possible but Qatar can be difficult especially online? Would calling them if cancellation were needed be the way forward?

    There may be one, but I am not aware of any airline that allows you to split bookings online, it’s something you need to do over the telephone. For what it’s worth the reverse – joining bookings into one PNR is impossible. It is possible to link bookings but that is of limited effect.

    @Polly, yes, back to the usual routine and second time on Qatar this year. Three weeks with family, 4 nigts in Bangkok and Phuket, and three in Hong Kong. Hope you got all sorted too, February IIRC?

    Thanjs @Yvette and @JDB for further comments on this topic. Given this abd comments from @Polly I just hope I di not need to change anything.. @JDB I’ve also had a lot of frustration with QR IT but I now use their app almost exclusively and to be fair I’ve got used to it and it’s worked well over the last year but that’s only be for the simple stuff as you mention.
