I was approved for an AMEX Premium Plus Card a couple of days ago, and I only discovered this site yesterday! Although I haven’t yet received my card, I had already placed a reservation for a hotel through Booking.com for which my stay is upcoming and I will have to pay at the hotel. Will I be able to gain Avios points for booking through Booking.com, and if so, how do I go about it? Can I do this before my stay at the hotel, or can I only do it afterwards? Thanks.
In order to get avios for booking.com reservations you need to click through to booking.com from BA estore. Current rate is 8 avios per £. IME it works on both the website and on the iphone app as long as you have allowed in-app tracking. The following morning BA will email you that the transaction has tracked successfully and avios are pending. If you booked a hotel with free cancellation and the price is still the same you can always cancel and rebook using the above route. Naturally, you will also receive avios for settling the hotel bill with your new BA Amex.
Welcome to the wonderful world of points and miles!
I suggest you read this beginner’s guide https://www.headforpoints.com/the-beginners-guide-to-collecting-avios-points/
Shame you went with Amex BA Premimum Plus card first as there is a specific card strategy to gain maximum points in sign up bonuses.
In regards to your query. As @pablo suggested you have to click through at the time of booking via BA estore. If the booking is refundable, you can just cancel and rebook via the link.
Before you do, I’d also suggest opening TPB account which is essentially money off site. You can also transfer cash earned into Avios should you wish and they sometimes run a bonus Avios promotion on transfers. It’s worth comparing BA estore and TPB offers in any case.
Sorry but what is a TPB account?
I think they meant TCB e.g. Topcashback
