Yes, just put them down as your guest on the booking. What they’re not strictly entitled to is any status benefits like free breakfast.
If the booking is for two people, and two people turn up who are not you, and the hotel requires ID to check in, then you may get in trouble unless you’ve cleared it with the hotel first. If the hotel is aware you are not personally staying then they won’t give any status benefits.
There is a procedure to use the US call centre to book a redemption under a different name, which is not the same as adding a second guest name online. If the US call centre staff do it properly, your name won’t appear on the booking at all, and the hotel will see your friend as holding your status. Your friend should therefore be prepared for that.
Thanks. It’s just a Newcastle hotel for my mother’s OH. Want to book it for the points but I won’t be there. Would be nice if he got my Gold benefits but not end of the world if not. Just worried in case he’d be asked to produce the credit card it was booked on or something.
