We have a 6 hour layover in CAI soon (in T3) and I’m thinking of buying access to the ‘first class’ lounge. We don’t have any status on Star Alliance but I am BA Gold. Anyone have any experience of the lounge or other recommendations?
A local travel agent doesn’t think it’s worth leaving the airport though that does seem odd given that our domestic and international flights are on the same booking with EgyptAir.
I don’t know of this is much help, but we were there in January.
Getting out of the airport was pretty quick, we arrived on the BA flight which gets in about 10.30pm and the airport was quiet and we were out in 30 mins or so (including collecting checked in luggage). Into the centre of the city is about a 40-60 minute ride, heavily dependent on traffic and time of day.
If you decided to go into town you could probably bank on a couple of hours but maybe not much more.
I’ve also applied for a TAP status match so paying EUR 99 for Star Alliance Gold would be one option. I’m tempted just to leave the airport to get a decent lunch rather than ‘snacks’ in some rubbish lounge.
