Forums Other Destination advice Boston to NYC roadtrip

  • 306 posts

Hi, in September I have a business trip to Boston then onto NYC. Decided to add 3 leisure days in the middle and join the cities by road trip.

I would appreciate any suggested routes and overnight stops from anyone who is knowledgeable.

    Thank you

Why drive when you can take the train? The service is frequent and very comfortable.

Both Providence and New Haven are worth a visit.

Head for Falmouth and take the ferry across to Martha’s Vinyard or Nantucket for the day. I spend a very pleasant day on a bike rented from the dock and cycled all over Nantucket.

Then Providence or Newport and visit the “cottages” of the very rich and famous, maybe do the clifftop walk.

    Newhaven CT, visit Yale.

Since we don’t know your interests it’s difficult to recommend.

Thanks @Andrew. Have done by train, service made Northern Rail look efficient and luxurious. But, wanted to see more than out of the window of a train.

Hi. Sorry didn’t reply earlier. Have only just seen your thread. We’re in the US at the moment. Vegas cheapest flights. Then to Yosemite to drop son off for John Muir Trail, then along I40 to Albuquerque and now en route back to Vegas to catch flight home.

We have never driven from Boston to NYC. However just before Covid after 4 days in Boston we did a road trip down to Plymouth and spent a couple of nights visiting the sights. Then drove up to Provincetown to stay a night before driving slowly back to Falmouth to get ferry to Nantucket where we also hired bikes. It was May, before the crowds, and we were surprised how much we enjoyed Cape Cod. We then drove to Providence and headed north inland up to New Hampshire.

On another trip when our kids were younger, we hired a car from JFK and spent a couple of days driving to Rockaway Beach, Fire Island the along to the eastern end of Long Island. So much to see and do and lots of lovely beaches.

Hope this might be of help.
