Booking room in my name for stay with friend but not arriving until day 2

As per the title, can I book a room in my name for me and a friend but I won’t be showing up until day 2. I have HH Gold, my friend has no status and it is a 5for4 booking hence the reason for booking it in my name. Is my friend going to have any issues checking if if they are named on the booking as the second person?
I’ve never actually done this but it’s been mentioned a number of times that if you put guest details on the booking and that person checks in and explains that the account holder will be arriving soon, all should be fine.
I guess a picky hotel might say no free breakfast on morning 1 because the gold member isn’t there?

I’ve heard Rob mention Spanish hotels have a real issue if P1 isn’t there at check-in, even if you’re named on the reservation.

Works 99%. There is always a chance of a busybody. However, if you are on the booking they will give you the room.
That does ring a bell about Spain. If you’re worried, you could always contact the hotel beforehand and explain the situation, as a gold member, etc!
