Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Booking one way flight with companion voucher and return on a later date

    Hi all,

As the topic says, I have a Virgin companion voucher and was looking at making a booking for December 2025. Is it still possible to use a voucher to make a booking for one way and to add the return at a later day when the seats open up then? Thanks!

No – if you update yourself via the recent articles and threads on Virgin’s recent changes, these included a set value for the voucher, depending on status, and also that there are no “half” vouchers any more.

You might get better value out of using it to upgrade 2 seats one-way under the new system.

The problem using the Companion Voucher is that you have to phone up (at least 30 min wait). So recently I have booked on line Cape Town going out using a total of 115,000pts (premium E) and have got Upper Class coming back and then used the Voucher 57,500pts. So I didn’t fully utilise the voucher (Red 75,000pts) but it is still a pretty good deal. Upperclass going to Cape Town now is just to many points now.

Hi. Im looking at some UC flights for next December also – if you can’t do that anymore, I take it that I have to wait for the return seats to go live and hope the outbound are still there?

Presumably, if your voucher still covers both legs! It’s often better just to use it to upgrade 2 people, one-way, and then you don’t need to worry about the return.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I’m sorry if I’m being thick. I have no status. Assumed my voucher was worth 75k points.

Looking at the points required for UC on the outbound leg which has been released UC is 35k points each.

I’ve got 160k VA points, so effectively 235k with the voucher? As long as the UC return flights are less than 82.5k each then I’m good for UC return no?
