I’m looking to book a room for my daughter so I get the points: any issues with this? It’ll be in the UK.
    Thanks

Book it in your name and then add here name as a second person on to the booking. She can then check in.

It’s not meant to give you the points, as points go to the person checking in, but generally the hotel will not change the booking and you may just get the credit anyhow.

I’m looking to book 3 nights (Indigo Liverpool) for my son and his GF, I’m Diamond, neither of them have an account, can I book on my account or will I need to open an IHG account for son to get members rate (I’m not worried about the few points). Thank you

As above, just book it and add your son as an additional guest, no problem booking for someone else. They may or may not get offered a free breakfast, you may or may not get the points. As long as neither are expected it’s a no lose scenario.

It’s the perennial dilemma. Technically it’s fraud. Especially if those staying are getting free lounge access, free breakfast etc. But many do it. If you are to do it, a sensible strategy may be not to stand as a couple at check-in claiming you’re staying in 2 bed room when the actual cardholder isn’t there…

Sometimes more difficult overseas where there are often passport requirements. Caveat emptor.

Booking a room for someone else is absolutely not fraud, it’s fully supported by IHG and if you call the booking line and ask they will do it for you, and add the second guest name as described above.

If you turn up at a hotel claiming to be someone else in order to get benefits Yes that is dodgy, but that is not the question being asked. If the hotel happen to offer benefits, either intentionally or simply because they haven’t worked out who is staying, the room booking is still legitimate.

Asking is different. If you don’t ask and add as second guest you’re saying you’re staying when you are not. Nothing in my experience happens, but unless you’ve cleared it beforehand I wouldn’t make it obvious that’s all.

Ok. I stand corrected. IHG website actually says you can do this on the website or App. Apparently you don’t even have to phone. Under FAQs.

    I have learnt something…

Now I’m wondering if you can do this legitimately with other chains. I thought it always had to be underhand. Anyone?
