I remember in 2019 when Melia sold its points on Amazon Spain. Did they ever do it again?
It’d be great if anyone knows of some good travel-related BFCM deals to share.

There’s normally a whole series of HfP articles on Black Friday deals….
…. and like all such nonsense, the deals are at least 95% meh so I wouldn’t worry.

    Hasnt Melia devalued their points?

Conde Nast has an article previewing some deals – not sure I can link to it here but you can easily find it with a quick search. Nothing jumped out at me but YMMV. I think it was mainly luggage deals, plus a few very random travel offers, like a deal at the Hamilton Princess in Bermuda – which I thought was a bit niche, but I’ve stayed there and can recommend it!

We’ve not been sent anything so far. Some ad space but booked but clearly we don’t see the ad until the last minute.

Moved to full revenue based redemptions so little value in buying points now (like Radisson).

Not quite true. They still have points rates for rooms, they are just poor compared to what they used to be and worse availability, so it’s just mostly revenue based.

I’ve just done my weekly IHG booking reprice.

One hotel has gone down by 20%.I doubt any black friday deal would match that.

IHG had a good promotion last Black Friday of 10k bonus points per 2 nights on paid stays, minimum $30 per night. I did very well out of it at a hotel in Bangkok, along with my IHG diamond status that I got hold of via the instant upgrade link (on here) just before that.

I’ve had a ton of Black Friday “offers” over the last few days. Apex Hotels 40% off code BF40. Worked on none of the dates or hotels I tried

Cheval 30% off, ends Nov 15th, so well before Black Friday

Citizen M 30% off, need to take a free trial to the M club thing Hfp has promoted in the past.

11.11 promos for Asia’s singles day might throw up some better stuff.

At the revenue based points rates, this still doesn’t make sense once you consider that you don’t earn on points bookings. Only do this if you have a particular use for them.

Melia had decent discounts last year around Black Friday comparable only to their Wonder Week promotion. I’m waiting for that – be surprised if that was worse that then the current points offer.

Since the demise of Creation, my most lucrative IHG points earner is the regular check and re-book of upcoming reservations!

Indeed, I saved 1000 points the other day rebooking the HI LGW! I’ve noticed as well recently that many HIs let you book multiple categories of room for the same points so you can get a mini fridge with pop and a Kitkat!

I’ve booked some nights at the HI Brighton as a mini matress run and noticed the same so I’ve treated myself to a ‘king bed premium balcony’ for the same points as their standard room. I wish the HI Mmanchester did the same!

Also an update on post upthread the hotel I booked in AMS for before Christmas went down even more so is 30% less than the original booking. It’s now £170 night (using rail card rate) have nevver seen the de witt so cheap apart from when it first opened.

Stacks with the 20% off for Gold members, too. Can get the ME in Dubai down to £160 a night in January on a flexible rate!

To repeat my message from the chat thread about Melia’s Black Friday deals…

it sounds good ‘up to 50% off with guaranteed 25% off for Melia rewards members’. Except it isn’t. I checked various hotels yesterday and today. I see a genuine (although less than 25% discount) in a couple and no discount at all in one which is on their list. I’m not quite sure how they get away with this. Is it that they had another ‘discount’ just before this which was identical? Do those rules which stop shops here advertising discounts when they never charged the full price apply?

Funny you should mention ME Dubai the real Swiss Tony. It was one I saw was discounted but really very little discounted vs the prices I saw yesterday. The other Dubai hotel which I personally prefer was discounted more but it still much much more expensive than it used to be.

Not seeing any noticeable discounts on three properties in Vietnam that are listed as being in scope.
The regular 20% code along with app 5% discount is significantly cheaper.
I thought I was doing it wrong until I read your post

Gran Melia Nha Trang is not just no noticeable discount, but no discount at all between Thursday and Friday.

Just lucky for me that I happened to search a lot on Wednesday and Thursday or I might have fallen for Melia’s ‘sale’.

I might try to scrape their website next year for pre and post Black Friday sale prices from some of the popular properties, as it’s sad to see the sale getting attention when people are being so misled.

The Melia BF website doesn’t tell you when the applicable/qualifying dates are (or at least, I can’t readily see it), so it seems you have to search and search until the website throws something up.

I was hoping for a few more Black Friday deals… Crossing fingers that more emerge this week!
