Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Barclaycard Avios bonus and card delivery time

Hello, I just got my Barclaycard Avios plus application accepted and I had 2 questions.
    1. Am I still eligible for the bonus if I cancelled a (non-avios) barclaycard about 9 months ago?
    2. How soon does the card arrive after acceptance? Any data points to share?

    1) Not according to the Ts and Cs.
    2) How long is a piece of string? You might find the long threads on this topic interesting!

I was accepted on the 6th of June and got the card on the 9th of June. I think the old threads here are going to be inaccurate because of the issues they all had at the beginning and I think it’s been resolved now.

    Great, thank you!

Thanks, any idea if there’s a specific time period before I’m eligible for SUP?

@GimmeMorePoints – I think the advice you have been given re SUB is incorrect. Barclaycard general policy is that you have to wait six months between cards (and you can officially only hold one card at a time), but in respect of the SUB for the new Avios cards, I can’t see why you wouldn’t be eligible.

NL may be getting confused with the two year rule which says:- “If you close your card account after you receive your Avios Welcome Bonus and then open another Barclaycard Avios card account within 2 years after you closed the original account, you will not be eligible for another Avios Welcome Bonus”

I thought Rob said it was 6 months after cancelling a non-avios card, and 2 years for avios card as per the T&C’s…

Amazing! Thank you so much @Jacob and @JDB
Called Barclaycard and they confirmed it shouldn’t be an issue and I’m still eligible for SUB. Will update if anything changes!

It doesn’t take much to confuse me, admittedly! But I need to remember this for if they eventually take away the HH BC.

    Hi there,

How long did it take you to receive your card?

I was approved today (27/06), but haven’t received a confirmation email yet.

Does anyone know when the 3 months starts? Is it from day of approval?

    Hi,
I applied on the 21st and received my card on the 27th.
I’m guessing the 3 months starts when you activate the card, but not entirely sure.

People have previously answered this with a variety of answers, so some are wrong. When you set up the app/get the card, the counter will show you what you have spent towards the SUB and the voucher and the date by which you need to reach the target; best to go with that. In any event I wouldn’t run your spending so close to the date that a late posting transaction or refund messes it up as resolving that may prove difficult.

    Thanks for your reply.

With my Amex Gold, I got slightly more than 3 months, although I comfortably made my spend within 2 months as my car insurance was due in that time, but the £15k spend requirement for 1 year is exactly a year to the date I got approved.

I’m hoping Barclaycard are similar. With my usual spending, and the fact that Mastercard is accepted everywhere, I should be ok making the SUB, but it will be handy having those few extra days just in case.

@aq.1988 I don’t know if it affects you, but with the one year Amex spend £15k get 10k MR, under the changes just announced, you may get less than a year to earn on the old system if I read the new terms correctly. It seems to say that, irrespective of your year end/anniversary, you need to have spent the £15k by 12 October to get 10k MR, otherwise you will only get 7,500.

Yes it does, you’re right, I forgot about that. I checked with Amex and they said that I would have to spend £15k by 12th Oct to get the 10k points,

I’m currently at about £12k spend, my anniversary date is 28th Nov. When I contacted Amex I was annoyed as I had about 6-7 weeks fewer to make the spend, and made my feelings clear in the chat, but then I saw the Barclaycard 50k avios offer and went for it! So now it actually works out better for me lol, as I will now be putting my spend on the Barclaycard, and therefore unlikely to spend the remaining £3k on my Amex, and still hit the Barclaycard sub. So therefore I should still get 5k MR, I wouldn’t have got otherwise.

I think Amex may have a slight problem with this particular change of terms. They can change almost all the benefits because they are essentially on a rolling basis, potentially even without 60 days notice, but the £15k/10k MR is essentially a 12 month contract that they are trying to shorten. You lose out by having to make the spend 1½ months early, I lose by 2½ but others might lose by much more. I spoke to someone fairly senior at Amex about this last week and they didn’t seem to realise that was the effect of the change, but once they understood, did sound rather concerned; expecting to hear back later this week!

Yes exactly, that’s what I was complaining about, that I signed up with the expectation that I would receive 10k MR for £15K spend, and that I would have until end of Nov to make it. Surely they shouldn’t be able to unilaterally change the conditions of the bonus mid-way through the year and make it worse for some people. Hopefully they give those people, like yourself, that are negatively affected the chance to hit their £15k spend by their original dates.
