Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Barclays Upgrade Voucher

Is there any way round being forced to use the £1 + max avios option when using the Barclays upgrade voucher for RFS? I just want to use it for standard £50 plus avios in CE. Othwerise it’s hardly a saving.

    Thanks

No – it’s not clear whether it was intended to be this way or just very poorly set up. People have also reported being told by BA on the phone that they can’t do any other kind of booking with it. You also can’t add a domestic leg without the same thing happening. I think I got decent use of out it by upgrading 2 of us to LAS but its value is very limited for anything other than ex-London, long haul upgrades.

OK thanks for the info. I’m done for LH trips for a while so this is a shame.

For how long? The voucher is valid for 2 years!
Also possibly you don’t need to travel on it (unlike the 241) so it might be possible to use it for someone else.

Hello, as a family of 3 is it possible to use two upgrade vouchers to book a trip for 3 persons? As I’m a silver card holder I’d like to have the family on one booking for seat selection. However when I try to book the page says I don’t have enough vouchers.
Obviously I’m only expecting to pay the avios for two PE and one CW at full price for three CW seats

You can’t do this online but you could use 1 voucher to upgrade 2 people one way then book the return separately so you’d get free seat selection for 2 on both legs. Then make a separate booking with the other upgrade voucher for the 3rd person’s full return trip. Otherwise you could call BA and ask if they can do it all on one booking over the phone, I can’t remember whether anyone has actually got them to do this.
What route is it? Were you planning to pay cash or avios for the return (or use another airline)?

Was planning on New York. As its a school holiday I was going to book at -355. I will try calling at midnight to see if the phone agent can do it as if not all on the same ticket then I’ll have seat selection fees.

This really sucks. It makes the upgrade voucher worth very little. Has anyone been able to work around it?

Have we an answer yet if its possible to book an outward flight at 355 days then call in and add a return using the used voucher when the return becomes available. This is crtical for me given that you can’t use one voucher for two outbound and a second on inbound booked later as we used to to with the Lloyds voucher, this as we are always looking at popular dates and destinations and the Amex 241 works nicely in this regard

Forgive the basic question, what’s RFS and PE?
