Looking for hotel advice for our first stay in Barbados – have already read Rhys’s review of Sandals and The House earlier this month, and Rob’s review of the Fairmont last November. We’ve (probably!) narrowed it down to 4 hotels:
1) The Coral Reef Club
2) O2 Beach Club
3) Beach View, and
4) The House
Can anyone highlight any pros or cons of them or even better provide a direct comparison? We’ll be going for 8 nights, first week in August, and it will be our first serious holiday without the teens (oooh, the excitement…!)
We really just want somewhere quiet and relaxing – somewhere to unwind and chill out. A seaview room is likely to be high on Mrs Chas’s agenda. We wouldn’t normally consider All Inclusive like the House, but the cross-dining opportunities at the other nearby hotels has pushed it onto our list. With an 8-night holiday we might do 2 hotels (trying to save the best to last – which one….?), but that could preclude some of the “stay 7 nights for the price of 5” options I’m seeing. There’s a tiny bit of me which is wondering if I should try Sandy Lane for a couple of nights at the end instead, but I haven’t looked at prices for that yet….!
I wouldn’t bother splurging on Sandy Lane; I think you risk being severely disappointed vs cost and expectations. You might find it worth looking at Cobbler’s Cove for a smaller more luxury experience.
We were at Sandy Lane last October (at ludicrous expense because we had 2 rooms). It is so head and shoulders above everything else that it’s really a different discussion, but this is mainly because the majority of other resorts have become very rundown and not had any recent investment.
Worth doing a few nights at the end just to see what you think, which is what we did after the Fairmont – even HfP money doesn’t run to 7 days x 2 premium rooms at Sandy Lane 🙂 Be prepared to spend though, eg the evening buffets are over £100 per person without drink.

Ooh JDB – you might have just confused things and increased our list to 5. So much for trying to narrow down our options…. 😉
We stayed at Treasure Beach back in 2019 as Marriott just announced it take over of the group. We liked it but reading reviews it seems to have gone downhill post covid.

Having checked out the pricing, we definitely won’t stay at Sandy Lane. Even on just looking at the menu of one of the places we had definitely been considering I had balked at the idea of paying £50 for a burger, only for my wife to point out that the menu prices ($120) were Barbudian Dollars, not US dollars… 🙄. So I can’t see me wanting to pay £100 for a buffet at the end of a holiday when I’m likely to have been over-indulging for a week anyway!
Has anyone got a view of the other places we are considering, especially 1-3 (I have a clear view of 4 from Rhys’s informative review)?
