Anyone else receive a survey invite from BA this afternoon? Asking amongst many things, would I recommend the BAEC, which other airline FF schemes I am a member of, who I plan to fly with in the future, how much do I feel the BAEC values my loyalty, which benefits I value most… No mention or acknowledgement whatsoever of the upcoming changes? Very odd timing because answers based on the scheme today are very different to what it becomes in a few weeks.

Well that’s weird, because the changes they have made are due to “overwhelming feedback” from customers, and everyone thinks it’s f********* fantastic. Is this marketing saying “customers told us they wanted to shoot themselves in the foot, and now they’ve done it they don’t really like it….”???

Maybe they are looking for a “Get out of Jail free” card. Unfortunately you need to go around the board 50 times or have more than £7500 to get one 😜

Unless BA has a clever plan to launch a “BA Plus” paid membership plan aimed at leisure travellers and those business travellers who actually choose who they fly with, then the resurgent segment of leisure travellers is gone from BA.

Maybe BA thought they would just offer special offers when it suits them, only for BA Holidays and not for just-flight bookings, to try to get leisure travellers to buy the very profitable Holiday product? Well it has to be insanely profitable, given the exorbitant rates for car hire within any BA Holiday I’ve looked up a quote for. News for you BA, that doesn’t build loyalty and won’t keep buyers who are free to choose, looking in a recession. Loyalty might, if you still had a program.

So maybe BA is going to introduce an annual BA Plus membership to capture leisure travellers along the lines of Easyjet Plus? Many more seat types selectable for free at booking, extra hand luggage (and we know what they’ll say we asked for to make that attractive), earlier boarding group…etc, all for around £200 per person per year. I commend you to examine Easyjet Plus, BA

Who knows. Given their monopoly at T5, it wouldn’t surprise me if one of the lounges became a “paid for” – sweat the assets. I expect them to row back on most of their changes over the coming months/years. It’s not unreasonable to link spend to status, but they have created a very high bar to lounge access. (Given most travellers probably have lounge access via other routes).

You can’t be premium and cheapy-jet at the same time.
