Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Status Qualification Target, 8 Jan Year End

  • 322 posts

As a data point following HfP article about the reduced qualification threshold extension for 2022:

I’m currently silver (extended to 28 Feb 2023), with TP collection reset this morning (8 Jan Year-End). The app is showing I need to collect 600 TP before 8 Jan 2023 to requalify.

So it looks like the reduced qualifying threshold (e.g. 450 TP for silver) has only been extended to those with 2022 Year-Ends (which to be fair, is how the BA site worded it). Not sure why HfP stated they didn’t believe the wording when they posted the original article…

Whether there will be future extensions/reductions still remains to be seen.

Yes, it looks like BA has done the dirty on us 8 Jan members.

One of the first to be hit by Covid cancellations, one of the last to get the status extensions (I’d reached 800TP off domestics and short hauls by the time they told us we didn’t need any of them) and now the first to get hit with the full pre-Covid status requirements.

The TP reduction has been extended till 31/12/2022 so you’ll only need to earn 450 TPs before 31/12/2022 to requalify for silver.

That’s one of the interpretations. It could be that BA has programmed this wrongly, or otherwise we’ll have to wait until one of the 8.33% of members with a Jan tier date reaches 450TPs and doesn’t requalify (but, do you get notified if you don’t requalify? Maybe have to wait until a current blue doesn’t get brozne after 225 TPs)

It is all stated in the BA help pages – go to: https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/tiers-and-benefits

and scroll down to the How do I benefit from the reduced Tier Point requirement to upgrade or renew my Tier? FAQ.

They have to draw a line somewhere… It’s not great it’s us, but I get it.

If you read the information in the link I posted above you will find it says:

Members with a Tier Point collection end date in 2023 can benefit from the reduced thresholds to renew or upgrade their status for the following membership year, if they earn the required number of Tier Points by 31 December 2022 only. From 1 January 2023 the reduced Tier thresholds will no longer apply.

Please note, Members with a Tier Point collection end date in 2023 will see the normal Tier Point threshold in the ‘My Account’ area on ba.com and the British Airways app from the start of their Tier Point collection year.

So you are one of the best off and have almost an entire year to earn the reduced threshold.

As per our article today, you’re actually OK – https://www.headforpoints.com/2022/01/10/british-airways-tier-points-2022/

You’ve got virtually an extra year at the lower thresholds, irrespective of what ba.com shows.
