Forums Payment cards American Express BA Premium Plus -> Marriott Bonvoy -> Platinum Amex

  • 2 posts

I have held a BA Premium Plus Card for the past 6 years.
I would ultimately like to get a Platinum Card when there is another similar to 100k sign up deal.

I have recently started my loyalty with Marriott Bonvoy and going for Platinum Elite this year. I am considering signing up for the Marriott Bonvoy card just for the 15 elite nights it provides (rather than for the signup bonus).

    1) Will I get the signup bonus for the Marriott Bonvoy Amex (I am not too bothered about this)
    2) Will applying for the Marriot Bonvoy card jeopardise the signup bonus from the Platinum card when I apply for this? Would I have to cancel this Marriott card and then wait two years? Or have to cancel my BAPP to qualify for Platinum bonus?

Understand this is not the conventional route and couldn’t work it out from the this HfP link

If you’re chasing Plat the 15 nights for £75 is a wise move

You’re not eligible for the Bonvoy card bonus but it doesn’t stop you getting the Platinum or BAPP bonus.

You can also get the Platinum bonus while holding the BAPP.

“A friend” (😉) was in the same situation as you and got the bonus on the Bonvoy card. Luck of the computer.

You’re not eligible for the Bonvoy Amex bonus if you’ve had other Amex cards, unfortunately. However, the Platinum operates almost on its own so if you haven’t had an MR-earning card in the past two years, you’ll be getting the signup bonus if you hit the required spend. However, you should wait a couple of months – at least – between applying for different cards (this is just general advice on opening multiple lines of credit)

Bonvoy fee went up to £95 last month – still decent value for what it offers, I think.
