Forums Payment cards American Express BA PP Annual Fee Question

  • 12 posts

I’ve just upgraded my free blue to the BAPP. If my membership year runs Jan to Jan will I just pay a pro rata card fee covering June to Dec (so approximately £140)? Then another £250 in Jan 2023? Or will it be the full £250 from day 1?

You’ll be charged the full fee from the date you upgrade IME.

    Thank you.

Yea, you will be charged immediately the full fee and then the next charge will be 12 months later but your collection year to meet the annual spend stays the same as per your blue card.

This works well when you upgrade just before hitting the £10k spend.

Does this upgrade/downgrade thing still work?

I was refused the option of upgrading for 9 months after downgrading. Net result of that is I’ve had an Amex sat idle for 6 months so I don’t hit the spend target. Not sure I’ll bother playing the upgrade/downgrade game anymore.

Recent reports suggest that they are indeed become stricter.. myself I last upgraded around September 21 (before the fee increase to £250) and was initially told that it was not possible, so I had to ask for a supervisor intervention that had to manually override the system
