Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA new Club suite – will I get it?

  • 254 posts

So just booked a last minute trip using 241 to DOH and seat map shows 777 aircraft with club suite ie just 4 a Brest. Cabin starts at row 5.

However seat Guru says it Ying Yang 8 a Brest which to be frank I won’t waste a 241 on let alone money or Avios. I can fly ex EU on QR for same miles.

What are the chances of BA switching club suite for old seat?

I haven’t flown BA long haul since 2017 so this is dipping my toe in the water, if the chances are low as most aircraft now refitted then ok but if it’s more likely then I will cancel and reroute. I know it’s only 6 hours but I am just not prepared to give BA money for the old club world

Don’t use that website. It’s not been kept up to date for some time.

Yes BA can and does switch planes so you’re never 100% guaranteed to get CS.

As is always the answers to these sort of questions, nothing is ever guaranteed and SeatGuru is rubbish.

There are only two CW 777’s left at LHR. One tends to cycle round Bahrain, Nassau and Atlanta. The other makes periodic visits to various places, recently including Dubai, Abuja and New York.

Can’t say I’ve ever noticed it popping up in Doha, but as above nothing is guaranteed.

You can see the current seat type by doing a dummy cash booking and going as far as seat selection. I’m about to try this for my return GCM-NAS-LHR as my last overnight in old CW was excruciating! (From MEX).

However, of course, you can never rule out equipment changes.

Sometimes airlines even use aircraft from different operators. For example, I seem to remember someone posting here about a trip on QR (I think?) and another operator being used which did not have the same level of facility.

It just depends on the day. Hopefully you will get what you want.

Relevant update hot off the press. The first of the final three ex-LGW 777’s is due to re-enter service tomorrow (Feb 1st), after waiting a month for final sign off as the conversion work is slightly different from previous aircraft.

That should see one of the final CW pair heading to Cardiff shortly for its CS refit, leaving only one in service and significantly improving the odds of avoiding it.

Can’t say I’ve ever noticed it popping up in Doha, but

There is a BA 777 rostered out of Doha and I’m on it in 2 months. No other way to get the itinerary I had, to work.

Believe me I tried to avoid it as no matter what class I’m flying the drone of the 777 really gets to me and CS wouldn’t swing it.

I consoled myself with the thought that unlike Qatar Airways, at least on BA if I do spot anything I want in Duty Free in Doha, perhaps paying with avios, there will be sufficient hand luggage allowance for it.

The question was not ‘is there a 777 out of Doha’ but ‘will it be CS’.

Further update – G-VIIV is now booked to fly from LHR – CWL later today, so once it gets back from Dubai this afternoon there will officially be only one CW 777 left in service at Heathrow.

Excellent – even shows the plane ID for flights shown in the last month

My CW to Seattle and back next September should both be CS as January has been 100% both ways

I travelled LHR-GCM this week. It was scheduled as Club Suite since booking but upon OLCI it had suddenly changed to Club World. Speaking to the crew who were very apologetic they stated there were still 3 Club World 777’s at LHR

As above, only one left now. The first of the last three is back in service with CS and the second is en route to Cardiff for refit as I write this.

Hi @Alan H, where have you been?! That is unfortunate, I know at least one of the GCM flights has old CW (possibly the Saturday service?) but we’ve managed to dodge it since CS was introduced.

We are there in March, but going rogue and flying on Virgin via MCO, FLL, BIM and MIA first!

Hi@northernlass, still doing the same 3/4 trips to GCM and plenty of other trips in between. Seems like we are like ships pass in the night. We leave here at the end of the month and then back again in May so will miss each other again. Let us know how your virgin flights go as I’ll be exploring other carriers with the BAEC changes.

Will do – we’re also booked to fly out on BA mid Jan ’26, but will look to return on VS.

I got a stunning deal with the dynamic VS pricing – 15k Virgin points plus £864 for UC for 2 of us, MAN-MCO. Saver seats appeared on our outbound travel date about a month ago, and the cc voucher can now be used to upgrade by as many cabins as the 75k points will stretch to. After cancelling our MAN-ATL-FLL seats, we saved about £400 on taxes, plus 67k points.

MAN/LHR-ATL-GCM can be found on points, but the ATL-GCM legs get snapped up quite quickly by Americans so you need to be on the ball.

OH wants to dive with hammerhead sharks in Bimini this time so we’re doing a very convoluted routing, but eventually heading MIA-GCM on AA for the last 10 days on the trip!

Apologies for going so far off topic …

Sounds like a bargain with VS! By the way Blue Rock have significantly increased prices and what’s included in happy hour the hours of which have also changed and not for the better

Oh dear – I’ll be sure to check out the new prices online before heading over. Thanks for the heads up!

Although – food prices have gone up so much here since the pandemic, the past couple of years I’ve found myself thinking Cayman isn’t actually that much more expensive any more when it comes to basics like bread and eggs!

Bad news for the GCM regulars is that the sole remaining LHR CW 777 seems to be staying on the ATL/BAH/NAS rotation, for now at least. On the positive side it should be heading off for its CS refit within the next couple of months.

    11,282 posts

Hopefully I’ll continue avoiding it. Returning in PE next month, and our J outbound next Jan is showing CS – not had an equipment change since CS was introduced, touch wood!

Next Jan is about as guaranteed as it gets, unless they decide to spite you and switch to a 787 on that route! OK I know that isn’t remotely likely, but never assume anything.

Are there any more recent articles or updates on the rollout? I thought it might get tracked on an article, there was one in Feb 2024 that was pretty good but latest Ive seen is this one: https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/06/06/first-british-airways-boeing-787-8-with-club-suite/

I guess aircraft get swapped around but a summary list rather than searching on the flight number etc would be useful when planning long haul.

What sort of update are you looking for?

One LHR 777 left as covered above. Only two 788’s converted so far with a third in progress, so similar glacial progress to the end of the 777 program.

380’s may start next year, not much else to say. I think we can safely assume that the CW seats will still be flying out of LHR well in to 2027.

Sorry – to clarify – stats/coverage like this I thought was useful, as it rolls up routing as well.

Personally looking at LHR -> SYD/MEL routes on avios J bookings. Slow progress a bit depressing, but there is always QATAR.

BA don’t fly to MEL, and if you succeed in getting SYD with avios you will appreciate whichever seat you get 😂
