Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Heathrow to Istanbul – advice on Avios pricing

  • 69 posts

looking to book for a long weekend in June 2024 fri to mon in SAW istanbul

on rewards flight saver 1 way business short haul from LHR coming back econ will cost me 76000 Avios + £ 2.00 i think i worked it correctly works out to 51p per avios conversion?
ive looked at normal rate on BA both ways econ will cost £390.58 for both of us

another way is to pay £800 all in inc hotels and getting around 4k avios by booking avios hotel via ba shopping portal

76000 is quite a lot for a short haul flight would rather save my avios for a long haul flight and utilise my Amex companion on CW.

or is there another way i have missed?
    any advice please
    Many Thanks

Your maths is out. 390/76000 = 0.51p per Avios. That’s terrible.

Thanks i did think its quite a lot for a short haul i did mention 51p in my post.

I’m gonna buy the econ ticket and hotel separately using my BA PP so will get more avios i think its 3x for the flights

Before you do that booking check what price BA Holidays are offering as well.

thanks yes i did look into this.
its about £50 cheaper with a total of just under 800 avios
on the other hand by booking separately and using avios hotel link via ba shopping portal i can get 10x avios i have calculated correctly about 4500 avios? for and extra £50 which i think isnt bad? plus 3x avios for the flights?

You will get 3x avios on all BA spend on the BAPP so if you book the BA holiday it will likely be better value than avios hotels.

yes good point just had a look if i worked it out correctly i would get 2400 avios
by booking separately i think i should get 4500 for avios hotel (same hotel as BA Holidays) plus another 1170 for the flights? so in total 5670 approx in avios for £50 more? seems too good to be true by booking separately?

You’ll get 3270 extra avios which is worth about £32.70, so I’d keep the cash!

How much is the hotel for cash? I.e. not through avios hotels or BA holidays? That might be better still.

i get where your coming from i only tend to use my avios on long haul and use BA CW seats so i believe they are better value than £32.70?
i checked out the hotel direct works out around £430 with hilton honours discount

If you’re Hilton Honors Gold, you’ll get free breakfast by booking direct, but you won’t (in theory) with BA Hols.
