Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help BA – how can I check actual flight cancellation reason?

  • 48 posts

    Hi
How do I find out the actual reason for cancellation?

My BA8760 BCN-LCY 18 July was cancelled today on the day.

If it is today’s hot weather, are BA exempted from providing compensation for extra travel costs/EC261?

I read somewhere there was a website that would tell you the real reason (but only up to 24h after departure – and maybe behind a paywall).

I saw that the outbound LCY-BCN 18 July BA8759 was cancelled but that most LCY flights were departing as normal.

    Appreciate any advice.
    Thanks

It’s coming up as FCRW on ExpertFlyer, which I gather is flight crew-related (presumably unavailability?).

    @PeteM
    – thanks for the super-quick reply and for checking. I guess the screen that shows this is behind a paywall. Not sure I can justify another travel subscription service!!

A friend got diverted to Stansted last night and the pilot told them it’s happening most days due to delays and curfew at LCY. I imagine this could be having a knock on impact to other flights if crew are out of position / need to go fetch aircraft

@PeteM any chance you could check for W9 5742 on 4th Jun 2022?

Unless @PeteM has some inside track on the info you can only check the last 10 days.

@dougzz99 ah, ok, never mind… guess I’m at the mercy of the airline then and whatever excuse they come up with.

Easy 8390 – no data on ExpertFlyer. Often seems that way, suspect they like it that way. Others may know other ways to check.

It’s also not worth getting too hooked up on the reason shown in the system and in BA’s case as to whether there is a Y or N at the end. Some codes are too generic to be meaningful anyway.

Delays/cancellations also often have multiple causes and the ops people just need to put something in the system that might not be the definitive answer re compensation.

If there is any doubt, people should claim anyway and if the airline refuses the claim citing ‘extraordinary circumstances’ ask them for documentary proof and take it from there.
