Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help BA (Holidays) return flight cancelled – help!

  • 27 posts

meant to be flying back from PFO tomorrow night but just had text to say flight is cancelled (apparently so is morning one which was an option when we originally booked) and they proposed to rebook on Monday night.

There’s an easyJet flight back to Gatwick which would work tomorrow – anyone can help me with the best way to get booked onto that without losing a ton of cash? This is a BA Holidays booking (w/car hire, 4 days) and need to get to LGW as car is there.

    Help!

    Contact the BA duty office.

Issues like this are what they are there for!

Call BA Holidays 24-hr line, they will have someone on duty who can tell you which options. The number will be in your confirmation paperwork.

Though if you want Easyjet I suspect you might be able to agree it with BAH or even BA, but it would involve you paying out and then requesting reimbursement and having to wait I think.

It is also BAH’s responsibility under holiday regs to sort out accommodation if you do have to stay an extra night or two – they should be able to do that without you paying out.

How essential is it that you return tomorrow? BAH / BA will pay hotel and food/drink for the extra night. The alternative to flying EasyJet tomorrow is to fly BA from LCA to LHR. There are 4 flights from LCA on Sunday and all seem to still be on sale. That would of course require you to drive to Larnaca.

Given the lack of options from PFO tomorrow you might get agreement to move to EasyJet.

As above call the BA Holidays 24hr number. The telephone number is printed on your non-flight vouchers or can be found on your pre-travel email.

Btw if you don’t want to / can’t phone then email the duty office.

Include your booking reference in the subject like and send a short message. Don’t include irrelevant details. If they offer you something to LHR then take it as they will reimburse costs to get to LGW.

They are very responsive in replying.

Lufthansa via Munich is option they’ll be able to book. Then uber back to your car and send BA the receipt.

Personally I’d have the refusal for a equivalent (i.e. same day direct) flight noted by BAH, do not accept a refund and then book the Easyjet. Send in the receipt as a rerouting expense. Judging by the lack of posts on here I don’t think BA are tricky about reimbursement especially as the flights aren’t super expensive

Always look at MMB on ba.com or their app on your phone, sometimes more alternatives are offered than in the e mail.

I’m curious to know if OP has been able to resolve getting home later today.

By the way the reason the flught is cancelled is there was lack of crew to operate the outbound flight from LGW (reported on the FT cancellations thread). So that means you are eligible for compensation.

Well – so first off thank you all for comments, I hadn’t seen the email from the Duty office with the contact info and as suggested they were super helpful.

Agreed to my booking easyJet and gave me link for reimbursement without any issue. Dropped car off a little later but no charge made (that more like is Avis being generous) and made it back albeit the EZY flight was 2hrs late getting in eventually so it was a very late night.

The next question is, having arrived back 4hrs later than booked, but having taken rerouting does that diminish any EU261 recourse and do I just consider myself lucky to be back the same night (or, middle of the next morning) and assuming that I get reimbursed for the EZY flights without fuss, that all’s well that ends well?

@Chrisasaurus – the compensation eligibility on a rerouting runs off the scheduled arrival time rather than the actual arrival time – i.e. BA isn’t responsible for EasyJet’s two hour delay. New UK261 rights attached to the EasyJet flight, so that flight would have needed to be more than three hours late to get compensation.

BA does owe you the cost of the replacement tickets which BAH appears to have agreed and they will keep the fare – assuming that works out for you – i.e. the cost of the EasyJet tickets is greater than any refund you would otherwise be due.

Additionally BA owes you any accommodation or food costs incurred directly as a result of the cancellation. They should also give you the ORC Avios and Tier Points for the BA flight you didn’t take and any double ones of course.

@Chrisasaurus – the compensation you’re due is for the cancellation of your BA flight. As I stated above the outbound flught was cancelled due to lack of crew and is eligible for compensation so it follows that you are entitled to compensation for the cancellation of your flight for the same reason.

The compensation is due to each passenger on the booking

This is in addition to refunding your expenses incurred booking yourself onto EasyJet. The EasyJet flight has its own EC261 rights but you werent delayed more than 3 hours so no compensation due from them.

I am glad BAH agreed to reroute you on EasyJet and that you got home yesterday albeit quite late.

Really need to ask why 4 days and not 5 in the first place? Double TP worthless?
