Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA flight to Tokyo and back with Iberia using 241

Short update. Flights released at midnight for Iberia.. tried calling BAEC Desk (Us Number) but automated msg service said office was closed.. that was already from 11:45 PM.
Anyway, luck has it that the seats from Madrid to Japan were still available this morning, so called again at 08:00 and managed to get the seats booked.
Now will have to hunt for the return flights.

Nice work! It’s because of the interim period of the US changing times and the UK not yet. So when our clocks go forward, it should be good to go!

Can you give the details on the flights please, Avios and £ cost etc. My in-laws are looking at doing the exact same trip.

Via BAEC it was the following:

One way Flight with Iberia MAD – NRT in Business Class: 2 Adults + 1 Infant: 1 Companion Voucher, 65450 Avios and £212.

We added my mother on the same flight in Premium Economy: 35000 Avios + £170.90.
If booking directly with Avios only via Iberia, the same option would be about £15 cheaper.

We will book our flights to Madrid separately.

    Incredible value!

We’ve got our first Iberia business flight this summer to Bogota. Looking forward to trying it out

Thought Id share my recent experience trying to book the return leg with Iberia, Tokyo to Madrid.

Flights were released at 1:00 AM UK time (since we went back to summer time), so using the US BAEC telephone line, would not work. So only alternative would be to call at 8:00 AM and try there. Unfortunately it seems that as soon as the flights where released at 1:00 AM this morning, that someone booked 1 Business Class seat and 1 Premium Economy Seat. So using my 241 voucher wouldnt work as the cabins are different.

So ill have the following strategy:

    1. Try next flight release to get the seats in either 2 x business or 2 x premium economy.
    2. IF Iberia doesn’t work, revert back to BA, as flights are being released a few days later than Iberia. But I guess the taxes I originally paid for the Iberia journey MAD-NRT might be recalculated and increased.
    3. Looking at an alternative City for the return departure. I.e. Shanghai with BA. I guess also in this scenario taxes will be recalculated.

Any body have any other suggestions of some cities could use? I guess Hong Kong, Singapore could be options to use the 241 voucher.

If you have enough avios to book the return online from somewhere the seats aren’t being grabbed by phone agents on release, you can claim back 50% avios later and there very likely won’t be any re-calculation of taxes.

I checked for someone the other day, and taxes HKG-LHR were £36.50 pp!

Good point, yes we have 500K Avios knocking about at the moment, so plenty enough o do this.

@krautboy From my experience, at 1:00 AM only 1 seat in Business and PE are released on Iberia. The normal quota of 2 seats in Business and 2 in PE are released somewhere after 5 am. So, you have to keep checking for the seats from early morning and you should be able to get 2 seats in Business or PE unless someone has already booked the 1 seat released at 1 am. It would be better to get an idea of this 3-4 days before the intended travel date.

2 seats are now available in business and premium economy right now. Not sure exactly what time they were released, but some time in the last couple of hours, as we’ve been keeping an eye on it. It was 1 previously up until this point in checking.
