Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help BA flight change – prebooked hotel etc now of no use

I have two BA bookings GLA>LHR and LGW>LPA, CE

My plan was to fly GLA>LHR spend a day in London, then travel to LGW the following morning for a flight at 9.30am

BA have changed my flight from LGW to 6.40am – meaning there is really no point staying in London, best now just to stay at LGW.

My problem is that i have prebooked HEX, non-refundable Hiton hotel night and train tickets from Victoria to LGW all of which are now pretty useless unless i want to getting up at 4am (or earlier) to get myself to Gatwick.

Most sensible option now seems to be to travel direct from LHR>LGW and spend night at Gatwick.

So my question is are there any options open to me to reclaim any of these costs (everything paid for using Amex platinum)??

@glasgowchill73 – the schedule change isn’t really an insurable event (and nor does it render BA liable) and while it obviously makes sense now to stay at LGW, that’s a matter of convenience rather than necessity.

    Not from BA.

You’d need to checck the Amex policy for what they might cover.

I’m afraid it an example of why not to book non cancellable hotel rooms for what is often only a modest saving

I thought BA’s own policy was if flight moves more than 2 hours from original, you can refuse and ask for a different flight.

Just so tacky that we hear BA doing too many flight reschedulings after people have booked. This used to be a worry at the tackier end of the package holidays market – not so much with scheduled airlines and certainly not the better scheduled airlines.

I’d identify a later flight amd ask, no need to give too many details.

Hotels can be pretty accommodating in these circumstances – if they won’t refund you, they’ll often at least allow a date change. Speak to them for sure.

Hilton are usually brilliant about moving bookings if you email and explain the circumstances and offer to pay any difference. Obviously it’s not guaranteed but I’ve never been charged extra if the rate had gone up in the meantime!

If you just want a different night at the same hotel, the best thing is just to email as above and mention the new date you’d like the booking moved to – they will normally do it automatically and you’ll see it in your account.
