Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help BA executive decision not to send any luggage on flight BA944

All wanted to check best cause of actions as BA told us ones we were on the plane that no luggage will be loaded due to the capacity situation at LHR; they told us that DUS would be informed… What a mess at DUS no one was there. What is the best cause of action? Will figure out tomorrow where the luggage is…

Are you going yo DUS on holiday or is Germany home? Depending on your answer you are either entitled to go out and buy essentials and bill to BA (this is if you are away from home)

If you are returning home to Germany you can’t go out and buy essentials as you should have plenty of clothes at home.

Either way log the luggage as missing. Ba has a duty to get it back to you and it will probably arrive after Easter. If it never turns up then you can claim compensation for lost luggage. Not sure what the limits are but the BA website should have info.

Under Montreal convention, airlines are only liable for up to $1288 and only if the luggage has not been found after 21 days.

    That’s not correct @meta

    It’s 1,288 Special Drawing Rights (XDR) which is currently approx $ 1,760 / £ 1,350

Assuming this is holiday you can buy essential clothes and toiletries and BA will reimburse those but only to the above limit. There isn’t actually a bar on claiming if you are returning home but it’s harder to justify a claim.

Rule of thumb is to buy only those items that you’d be happy to bear the costs if a claim was denied. And should the bag be actually lost (which is rare) any interim claim would be deducted from those limits.
