Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club ba.com two factor authentication code

  • 10 posts

All of a sudden and out of the blue, ba.com is requesting a 2FA code. I have managed to access ba.com using another computer (I don’t know why they randomly asked for a code in my personal laptop and phone 🤷🏻) but when I try to get to the log in settings of my account settings, I am again asked about this code.

What a mess! Has anyone figured out how to get out of this catch 22?

Well, maybe explain why you aren’t completing the 2FA process?

Don’t you just go into Microsoft Authenticator, choose the BA tab, and input the code within 30 seconds?

MSFT or Google authenticator all work great. Thanks to 2FA.

Often the request is based on whether you have a cookie stored or IP address. And often asked for again if you try to access changeable data.

I apologise. I was so mad I came here to vent and left leaving a half-baked explanation. I also took for granted this was yet another BA IT mishap™ and more people would feel relatable and complete the picture for me 😅.

Let me now be succinct but comprehensive:

    – I never enabled 2FA. I’ve always logged in with user name and password.
    – I don’t need an alternative to Proton Pass, the app I use to store all 2FA codes, but thanks for the suggestions
    – Yestreday, all of a sudden, when trying to log in from my personal laptop, ba.com would require a 2FA code to complete the process. Same from mobile browser.
    – Later that day, I tried from my work laptop (same network) and it worked. I logged in with nothing but my credentials 🤷🏼‍♂️
    – In trying to disable 2FA in order to reenable it, this time intentionally and by my own means, I found that ba.com would indeed require a 2FA for me to access the security settings area of my account.

As you see, this is an extremely rogue and bonkers behaviour from our favourite (at least mine) IT team. I guess I need to reach out to support to request an account recovery or something.

My daughter has just had the same experience – a demand for 2FA from BA to manage part of her account, despite the fact she’s never set it up. She also managed to work around this by using another computer!

I’ve advised her to call BA and remove the 2FA so she can set it up properly

I finally got through to chat support. They say that MFA will be disabled in 7-10 days. Good lord these guys are slower than a sloth.

Were you redirected between the old and new sites? I’ve had some “fun” over the last week of trying to log in and bouncing between the different versions of the site, with one of them requesting the 2FA.

Yes. There seems to be an almost infinite loop of redirections taking place.
