Hi, I’ve flights booked from Belfast – LHR at 1515 on Friday 6th May, returning Sunday 8th at 1935.
This morning, at 0830, BA notified me that the BHR-LHR leg of the trip has been cancelled and there’s a link that will allow me to rebook or cancel.
Just checking what my options are – The purpose of the London trip is a family christening, so I really can’t miss it.
If I accept a rebooked flight (no alternatives were provided, I have to book my own), I wont have to pay any additional costs? And am I still entitled to any level of compensation?
Thanks
This is is a bit confusing – are you being offered alternative flights or not via MMB? I would have thought there might be an earlier option on the outbound.
Compensation would depend on how early or late you arrive in relation to the original routing.
No – I’ve not been offered flights, email from BA states:
“ To help get your travel plans back on track, you can rebook onto the next available flight, or claim a refund, by going to Manage My Booking.
Please be aware that if you agree to choose a different departure point or destination to the ones on your original booking, you can’t claim expenses for travel from, to or between these locations, such as car hire, parking costs or train tickets.”
So when I go to MMB, after entering booking ref and surname, I’m permitted to select any available alternative flight.
If you can re-book via MMB then you’ve been offered alternative flights!
Is there an option which suits you? Unless the alternatives interfere with your plans substantially, you’re better sticking with BA than booking with a different carrier and chasing BA for the money. I think you are just within the 14 day period for delay compensation so you could look into that as well – lots of threads on here about it.
I’m thinking of going for the earlier (1230) flight, as if I book the later options, that’d leave me too late getting to my destination with a young kid. As I’m now flying earlier than anticipated, this link suggests that I’m entitled to £220 compensation per passenger. Is this accurate?

When you click on the link what flight options are you given? There must be an alternative flight option.
If the only flight suitable for you depart more than one hour earlier than your original flight you are entitled to some compensation.
I would not accept a refund as that would end any EC261 cover.
When I click the link, it permits me to select any of the remaining BHD-LHR(or LCY) flights
By way of an update, today I received a notification that I’ll be receiving the Sterling equivalent of 750 Euro paid into my account (3 passengers @ 250 each)
Thanks all.
Be careful. Taking a reroute that lands you earlier or less than x hours scale rate of hours later than you booked according to distance of flight, gives the airline the right to cut your compensation to 50%.
I think @NorthernLass said this happened to her on another thread today.
Given that taking an earlier flight can often be difficult, expensive to get to and may deprive you of things ypu had planned if you do take am earlier flight for the convenience of the airline, it may end up costing you more than you thought
