Does anyone have an idea of the fitting of BA Club World Suite in Boeing 787-9/8 – BA Club World Business class flights? My google search is limited to results on cancellation and supply chain issues.
There’s a good thread on this over on Flyertalk.
788 – two converted so far. With a following wind should get completed next year.
789 – won’t get underway until the 788’s are (almost) finished.
787’s out of action without engines are unlikely to be done until they have working engines be surprised if the timeline doesn’t move.
787’s loss might be A380’s gain though.
The suggestion is that the A380’s won’t be converted in Cardiff, so there isn’t a direct overlap. However as supply of seats has been an ongoing issue they could benefit in that regard if the 787 program slips.
Exactly supply chain and capex investment rather than where they’ll be done.

It’s more than a suggestion. The A380s are too big for the Cardiff maintenance hangers. The seats are not a one size fits all though as cabin width varies. That’s why the size and shape of the side table for example varies between different aircraft type. I’d imagine they have to be ordered for the specific aircraft type sometime in advance so it may not really help, plus the A380 refit is still at the design stage in any case.
The 787 refits are a two year programme.
And as above all parts of the supply chain will has different priorities if fewer refits are required not just the specific seat type, plenty of shared parts regardless of what the “shell” looks like and more importantly the capex expenditure to actually make it happen.
IAG has made net debt reduction and and profit commitments to the markets and BA have to do their part to hit them. The constraint isn’t just when you can get the seats but when you can generate the excess cash to pay for them.
Also Airbus design and certification will be faster then Boeing as they are able to do their own unlike Boeing.
Been tracking flyertalk. 3rd flight is back in service. Have redeemed for biz class one of the vouchers hoping would get club suite for April flight
As I posted in the chat thread a couple of days ago, while the third 787-8 refit has been completed the first has been out of service for a while, so your chances of coming across one are still not good.
There’s no sign of the next in line heading to Cardiff for its refit yet, unless someone takes a brave decision and starts work on the one that’s been sitting there for months with no engines, so there isn’t even a continuous program in place.
Odds are low. I assume 1 out of 10. With g-zbjc back in service hoping for an increased odds over the next 8 weeks.
Flight of interest to me is BA35/36 combination. But like you and many suggested, no assurances just playing the odds at the moment.
