Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Avios reward seat release time

Help please. I used to think BA releases 355 day’s avios reward seats at midnight or 1am. Ive been waiting more than 3 hous on BA website to book 23/11/2024 rewards seats even though it’s 03:15am in the UK time now, and the BA system only shows the rewards seats until 22/11/2024.

Is it something wrong with BA website or do I have to call at 1am in order to get the rewards seats as soon as it’s released? Many thanks.

I haven’t done the maths but I expect it’s because 2024 is a leap year so you have a 2nd late night ahead.

SeatSpy is showing Nov 23rd as the latest available date. Does the flight you want depart every day? Not all routes are served 7 days per week.
Otherwise, someone else might have snapped the seats up so fast you weren’t able to see them when they were released.

Thanks for the response. Yes it does depart every day, LHR – MALE.

I’m currently in the States and had monitored and refreshed the BA website every minute for 3.5 hours since midnight UK time, but none tickets were released until I gave up. I don’t know when they were released but the business class are gone and only premium economy and economy seats are available currently.

Just wanted to know when BA system exactly releases the rewards tickets.

It’s midnight GMT atm, but there may have well been people on the phone to BA grabbing the tickets the second they were released, especially as it’s going into peak season now.

Have you got a BA companion voucher which might open up more availability?

Is there not an issue with the BA website that it doesn’t let you see the seats until the clock on the device you are using ticks over to midnight? I have memories of this being a thing but then sometimes I struggle to tell the difference between reality and makebelieve.

If you can be bothered, could you have a look this evening (any time after 7pm EST) and see if you can see seats for an unpopular route e.g. LHR-EDI. Then change you clock to UK time and try again.

It would be really kind if you could report back if this is actually a thing.

Thanks again. Well, I personally don’t think people on the phone grabbing all the tickets (eco, p-eco and business) as the date 23.11.24 was completely gray and non-selective unt 3:30am GMT. Now it shows eco and p-eco seats available but only businesses class seats were gone, which clearly means that BA released the tickets between 3:30am and 8:30am( when I woke up in the States and found out the 23.11.24 was available to pick but only businesses seats were gone). Hope it makes sense.

I have upgrade voucher which I can book one-way online as soon as they are available in the system. I checked this well with BA staff.

@Froggee, I’ve booked seats at T-355 a few times from the US and Caribbean and it was always possible at midnight/1 am UK time (so around 7 pm where I was). I don’t know if this has changed recently; the last time I did it would have been around 2018. I can’t remember what time was showing on the device, though, but they usually adjust themselves to foreign times once I get onto the internet.

Thanks for the advice. Actually I did check other routes last night as well from tow phones via BA.com, but the date of 23.11.2024 was gray and non-selective either. So my understanding last night was that BA website didn’t release 355 days rewards seats as suggested at 1am GMT time. Another only option is to change the time of my phone as you suggested and I will certainly try tonight and share feedback.

It’s midnight (GMT) currently, changed from 1 am (BST) when the clocks went back at the end of October.

    Update:

Changed my time manually to UK time and I did see the tickets available at midnight UK time, so I easily grabbed two business classes online with my vouchers.

It proves BA website does read equipment time used for booking rewards tickets…

Thanks for all useful discussion and suggestion

I am pleased that it all worked out for you in the end. One is left with a feeling of “having won a prize in a draw” when securing BA Avios seats.

Oh I’m delighted – I love being right.

Please pop the usual £10 fee into my well. I’ll take US$12.50 if it’s easier.

It’s awful IT. I think if you were in e.g. Singapore then at midnight you could click through to select a date there is zero available for (yet) whereas the other way completely stymies you.

Great result – I had a little vicarious dopamine rush 😂

Does Mrs Froggee love it when you are right too?

If you went east, would the seats appear earlier than midnight?!

    1,226 posts

It isn’t about the flights appearing but being allowed to go to the screen where you can select the flights.

So from memory. you can get a one click head start if you go east. But until the seats are added, you just see no availability for the date in question.

That’s exactly what I thought. first, seats have to be released by BA otherwise no seats to be shown; second, adjust the phone/laptop time manually if you were in the West then monitoring it closely.

Thanks again for the help, happy ending in the end 😁
