Forums Payment cards American Express BA Amex Premium Plus (BAPP) — check or fold? (rumours welcome)

  • 1,612 posts

I have the BA Amex Premium Plus (BAPP). I’ve recently earned a companion voucher, and a sign up bonus, so now have no use for the card as the ongoing return on spend on the card doesn’t warrant the fee. Normally I would fold at this point to recover what I can from the annual fee. Player two has recently picked one up, and my spend will be on that as soon as the supplementary card drops on the doormat.

However, I seem to remember a rumour that started somewhere (probably here) that this card would be worth holding on to, at least for a few more months. Can anyone think of a reason, or speculate even, why I might want to hold this card if I was otherwise about to hand it back?

    Advice welcome.

I’m in the same boat and the rumour was on here. Rob said it was best to wait till the end of February before deciding whether to cancel a BAPP. It’s the only reason I’ve not cancelled yet.

No reason not to cancel if you’re sure you don’t want to stick with it. Wouldn’t get a replacement card for a few weeks though.

Would you recommend taking out a new one in the next few weeks as player 2 becomes eligible of sign up bonus or is a better option on the horizon greater than the current enhanced bonus before end of Feb?

Sounds like there’s a bumper sign up bonus coming this month so best to wait probably.

I’d say from those words its best to get in now and not cancel but I didn’t see the original recommendation from Rob.
