so, I’ve been PC for quite a while, and all I can state is:
->Whether it’s by virtue of status matching from Hertz or by gaining it, I’ve nearly always been upgraded in Europe. The only times where I aven’t were when I had booked with a non-upgradable work AWD where the discount was higher than the potential upgrade, or when they were sold out of cars in higher categories.
->Last time I rented in the US, I got a double-class upgrade to a Chrysler 300for a weekend rental. This was in 2017 so can’t remember what I rented, might have been a Corolla or similar)
->Weekend vouchers used to be yearly after your third rental in a tier: if you get bumped to PC mid-year and make 3 rentals, you’d get a second one . However Avis renewed my PC status automatically during the Covid Ages, so I haven’t rented more than thrice in a membership year since 2020. Perhaps this has changed since then
Would anyone be able to advise how the guaranteed upgrade works at airports please? I have a booking in Greece, currently midsize category D. Would this be upgraded to midsize group F (the higher group within the same category), or upgraded to large group M (the next category up)?

I wouldn’t count on a ‘guaranteed’ upgrade being guaranteed at smaller outstations such as Corfu, particularly when it is a franchise. You are fairly likely to get some sort of upgrade but no telling in advance/certainty as to what that might be.

Alright thanks. Was trying to get an idea what might be realistic to negotiate for at the collection desk. I guess I will just take what I get
What a friendly uk avis rep told me….you need to book a minimum class c car….and then you will be upgraded to a class F….if there are no class F on forecourt, you’ll get next class up.
Things to note, a manual might be a class C, but the same car in automotic will be E…South Africa being an example of where this happens.
At Austin we got the double upgrade for the Presidents Club , sat in the car, didn’t like it, and they offered a double upgrade on top of the double upgrade! But they had a huge amount of cars to select from and the staff were great.
Lastly, upgrades only eligible on sub 2 week rentals.
