Hi All
We are booked to fly during the summer holidays for 3. Tickets purchased with companion voucher+ points + cash/credit card. However, my wife has suddenly passed away a month ago. I still intend to travel on the dates with my son. So will BA refund me the companion voucher and points/cash paid towards my late wife’s ticket and allow me to keep rest of the booking? or will they cancel the entire booking and I need to rebook?
Sorry for your loss which must have been a shock for you.
Reports say BA can be very understanding in such circumstances. So I’d just call them in British office hours next week. They may be able to suggest things given 2 of you are still travelling. So I’d just ask them how best to do things now that this has happened but 2 of you would still like to travel.
Also depending on any insurance you may have there could be coverage from that side too.

Thank you, I’ll try them once I build the courage to have have the verbal conversation.
I am so sorry for your loss. Don’t worry about dealing with this until you are ready. It should be simple enough to split the PNR in two and then cancel the portion of the booking relating to your late wife. I would hope you would be able to do this using the “chat” function so you do not need to speak.
British Airways do have a dedicated number for bereavement although I am not sure how adept they will be with Avios bookings.
I am sorry for your loss. My husband died suddenly this time last year and the BA bereavement team were very kind and understanding. To avoid the distress of speaking to them I wrote to the Waterside address and they responded promptly by email. Everything was resolved without any issues.
My condolences. As above, BA can be very good in these cases – my father died in December and they happily refunded, in full, a couple of otherwise non-refundable cash fares that I had coming up (with him not involved at all in any of the travel). BAH were not so accommodating and stuck to their cancellation policy.
Obviously, avios tickets are always cancellable. I’m sure BA will help where possible but some of the voucher booking limitations may not possible to bend. It might depend who the ‘companion’ is on the 241 and whether that can be changed – usually not. It won’t hurt to ask.
I suppose if it comes to it, and you can probably ask this too, you could presumably keep the ticket as it is with just the two of you travelling.
