Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios ATM withdrawals – Avios Plus on Curve

  • 93 posts

Has anyone tried using their curve card on an ATM recently? Would I be charged a fee for it?

I know Barclays can technically figure out it’s an ATM withdrawal, but are there instances where it just flies under the radar and registers as a purchase?

It’s fine for the £200 pm cash withdrawal Curve allows under its Ts and Cs.

Why must everyone post things like this. It will now not be OK, as Mr X will be writing a poison pen to Barclaycard as we speak. I do despair sometimes…

The Curve T&Cs are irrelevant for these purposes. It’s how the underlying card treats the transaction that matters. As for yet again advertising this publicly, you reap what you sow.

I was just posting my experiences. I only withdraw the £200 officially permitted by Curve, and I haven’t been charged any fees by BC. This is absolutely normal and expected and nothing for anyone to be getting excited about. Rob even mentions it in his Curve articles.

It’s clearly advertised on their website and on HfP articles. I don’t feel like I let any secrets out the bag. Just asking for people’s experiences..

It’s not even MS. My last £200 went on domestic and dry cleaning, coffee, homeless guy outside the shops, £20 emergency cash for the teenager. I doubt even Mr X could summon much ire about those.

It’s absolutely fine to talk here about any manaffactured spending opportunities you can find. Apparently all the card issuers already know and are fine with it.. More importantly I now know!

All mine have tried up, so, keep them coming and always good if we can get postive evidence of good results. Cheers!

Not sure who said it was MS? What it represents is making a cash withdrawal/taking a cash advance without paying for it per the terms as I am sure you are aware. The fact Barclays isn’t clever enough to catch you isn’t really the point and the Curve terms upon which you seek to rely obviously can’t override those of the card provider. In any discussion of ethics, the words of the US philosopher Aldo Leopold are often cited:- “Ethical behaviour is doing the right thing when no one else is watching—even when doing the wrong thing is legal”

Well it rather depends whether you espouse Absolute or Relative ethics. I’m with (British philosophers) Bentham and Mill on this one.

And I’m not relying on anything, just relating my experiences to date (as I keep pointing out). Everyone is aware things could change at any time.
