Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Athens – LHR Companion voucher flight cancelled, compensation?

  • 18 posts

    Good Morning

Got an email in the early hours of this morning informing of this cancellation, and through ‘manage my booking’ link, they are letting me choose from the 4 earlier flights on that day (there are no later flights).

Its less than 14 days from our departure so we should be getting some compensation for this. However the closest flight we can choose is less than 2 hours earlier, so if we were on that flight we would not qualify. But if I were to choose a much earlier flight would I get the compensation or would they reject that due to the other flight being available?

Would it be better to ring them to make the changes instead of online so that I can explain the plans we had that day have been spoiled so we just want to come home earlier?

What do you want to do?

If you choose the flight closest to original scheduled departure and that is less than 2 hours you are definitely not going to get compensation but the inconvenience is lessened. Would that really be so bad?

The fact you’ve got this option says EC261 is doing its job.

Why would you deliberately choose a much earlier departure? If there is a genuine reason for doing so then you should get compo but I think it will be reduced by 50% since there was an option to get you home closer to your original schedule.

The alternative is to go for a departure on the following day, if that suits you better. Then BA would have to pay for extra hotel and food, not sure you would get compensation in that case though as it is your choice which results in the delayed arrival.

I think I’d take the flight closest to original and ask for some Avios as a goodwill gesture for inconvenience suffered rather than go down the EC261 rights route.

EC261 or whatever the name is after the EU exit, has a very clear purpose and it has made our travel better. Stop trying to ruin that, stop being opportunistic.

I want to get the flight that is before the last one. Its 16:55 and can stay in hotel up until check out and take time and chill at airport. I just wanted to know the best process so that I dont screw myself out of compensation if it is possible to claim. So I think best to just ring them as sounds like doing it online they will automatically think I’m ‘deliberately’ avoiding the closest flight. Thanks.

I think you should stop making useless comments.

If I wanted to be opportunistic I would get the first flight of the day that is over 7 hours before the next, not a flight that arrives within 2 hours of another.

If the 16:55 flight is showing in MMB just choose that. Worry about compensation entitlement until after you get home.

Yeh its probably for the best the anyway as I see now that the 14:25 I think it was is no longer an option. Not sure if cancelled too or people have been grabbing it. 16:55 will be the next one to go so wont mess around with a phone call.
