I’ve just had an email from Best Western advising me to cancel my early March booking. Apparently, the Ariel is closing between November 28 (!) and March 28. No reason given. I tried dummy bookings and the dates given verify. I hope they’re not getting rid of the wonderful original lobby spiral staircase, one of the few remaining features.
I think it’s being used as an immigration hotel, looks like they may have extended the contract?
Awful hotel both as IHG and BW, should either be turned into an immigration centre permanently or just demolished. The spiral staircase is quite nice but in the end nothing special.

+1.
A lucky escape
Admittedly, I’m more interested in the building’s architectural merits rather than its merits as an hotel! It has quite an interesting history (Christine Keeler etc) and was one of the first Heathrow hotels to open back in the very early sixties. Having read the BW email again, they state the temporary closure is ‘beyond their control’.
