Hello,
We were due to fly direct for TPA to LGW on our BA holiday booking they didn’t give a reason but it was likely due to the hurricane and the air traffic control issues as the prior flights were cancelled.
They rescheduled us on a flight the same day landing 2 hours later via Chicago but was wondering if we’re entitled to anything due to BA cancelling the original flight?

If the flight was cancelled for the reasons you indicate, then BA can claim ‘extraordinary circumstances’ and does not need to pay any compensation. If such ‘extraordinary circumstances’ did not apply, the exact timing of your rerouted flights matters as, if the schedule of those flights is inside the window -1/+2hrs BA also doesn’t need to pay, so the two hours to which you maybe refer as an approximation, needs to be over two hours. BA is also liable to pay for any food/refreshments but for a two hour time difference, not much would be allowed.
No chance.
When BA is taking weather disturbances far less than hurricanes up to 3 flights earlier elsewhere in the world for the allocated aircraft (like BA doesn’t have any other aircraft and can’t reallocate resources/rebalance delays over their massive number of flights), and getting away with it as excuses for not paying delay or cancellation compensation as has been reported including by JDB, absolutely no chance.
Without knowing the date and timings it’s impossible to give you an accurate answer on what if any compensation is due.
So please
What was the date of this?
What was the scheduled departure AND arrival departure of your original flight?
What was the scheduled departure and arrival departure times of the rebooked flights. AND which airlines were these.
Make sure at a minimum you get the avios and TPs for your original TPA-LGW booking

It was the 3rd Sept
Original flights TPA 18:55 BA2166 to LGW 8:35.
We were switched to TPA 17:38 to ORD 19:39 BA5708 operated by AA then ORD 20:46 to LHR 10:30 BA1601 also operated by AA.
We were never given a reason for the cancellation just the automatic BA holidays cancellation and to ring to rearrange. When asking why the rep didn’t give a reason.
