Little update on a couple of bits…
They can’t connect my Barclays current account to my Barclaycard as my Barclaycard account is missing some details like mothers maiden name etc, so they don’t match up. They can’t add that over the phone. So I have to go into a branch. Bizarre – if you need that data to match the accounts, then ask for it during the sign up process!
Apple subscriptions, she also said they can sort in branch.
Same with the £5/month rebate for having Premier Avios Awards.
Highly suspicious that I’ll get to a branch and they’ll say they can’t help me. But we’ll see.
I then asked another question and because she called me, she can’t discuss anything other than what she called to ask me. Right then!
BTW you will need to make an appointment to see anyone in a branch and when I went in last week was told next appointment was in April.
“How old will you be on your next birthday”
This is the standard security question. Been asked on the last four phone calls.I’ve got mixed feelings on that!

Your age or the question?
Glad they don’t ask me that, I’d more than likely get it wrong.
You didnt think it conceivable an automated welcome email might arrive out of sequence to your card being activated??
Even after reading about and experiencing all the mishaps on this very forum ?
I’m not sure why you feel the need to be such a staunch supporter of Barclaycard, but they control when they send out their emails so if it requires the card to be activated then they should wait until it is activated before sending out such an email. My suspicion is that their IT is so rubbish they sent it out anyway and it doesn’t work for anyone.

Yup, that’s beginning to sound quite normal for anything Barclays-related.

I got asked that too! I couldn’t understand that the rep had actually said the word ‘birthday’. They had to repeat it several times… then I thought my ears were playing me tricks!

Once again, you are aware and acknowledge their IT is weak!! Yet continue to complicate it by cancelling and asking for more cards, and trying to use services before the card is activated !!
Stan – a fraudster can do a LOT of damage in a week with a stolen card. And clearly these cards have been tampered with, whatever that’s down to. If it hasn’t arrived after the promised 5 days it’s just sensible and responsible to query it. And I actually didn’t ask for it to be cancelled and re-issued, Barclays did that automatically when I contacted them to notify them of the delay. It really is a shambles. Also, are you JDB with their Barclays head on?!

A branch? How quaint. It’s been the best part of two decades since I stepped inside such a place.
Being sent into bank branches to sort out things that should be simple is probably the worst development yet, so far as I’m concerned. It’s 2022 – I don’t want to have to make a special visit to the High Street just to activate an Apple free trial!
After raising a ticket with Curve and then whilst on the phone to Barlcaycard fraud team , I finally managed to get the card to verify properly on Curve.
I’ve yet to actually purchase anything , but another tiny step forward 😉Justin
If they told me that, I’d ask if they intend to re-open the one of the two branches within a 15 miles radius that they’ve closed in the past couple of years to allow me to visit them.

Same happened to me – i didn’t ask for it to be cancelled, it was done as soon as i asked when it was sent as it was taking a long time.
My partner had a previous new credit card stolen from our mail box, as well as the pin the next day. The thieves tried to go on a shopping spree in a designer clothes shop with card and pin, but thankfully card needed to be activated by a word that was set up when applying. So the fact some of us called up with concern because there was no sign of card after patiently waiting two weeks, is quite reasonable in my opinion.

Honestly have no Barclays affiliation. I just thought it was dramatic to be calling up after a week. Amex is fine tuned and maybe spoils us, but with Barclays well known sloppiness, and it being a new card, surely waiting a bit longer was sensible.
I dont think the card was tampered with – the packaging was just too big for the envelopes they used !
Original card arrived today. Clearly had been opened by someone as it was ripped on three sides and the silver document wallet inside had also been ripped by whatever tool was used to open the envelope.
Replacement due 21st March FFS. With the chat about 6 days after activation needed for 3D Secure, I’ll be lucky to make a purchase on the card before April.

How do you know that’s when your card is due? Or just an estimate on when you had the call?

That’s what I was told on phone this evening.
Still can’t add to Paypal, can’t add to Tesco pay+ and pretty much constant declines on Ocado – spent ages on the phone to the fraud team and managed to get an ocado order through, but on making a change this morning declines again. Never get any 3DS to confirm the payment it just declines. Very unimpressed right now.
Same boat as everyone else, car arrived eventually, unsealed with a huge tear down the side.
I called up to cancel the card straight away, 14 days ‘in the post’ a fraudster had access to
My Name
Address
Cardf Number
Exp date
CVV Code
Credit Limit
Cash limit
statement date
Card looked like it had been removed and replacedIf someone is ok with that data being available, then I would be surprised
I logged a formal potential personal data breach with Barclaycard on top of a general complaint.
This card will not be staying, and to think i was considering the Barclays Premier account!
I do wonder why so many envelopes had been opened.
Looking at the photo I posted a few pages back, and photos from other people here and on flyertalk, you can see the seal on the envelope is in place, but it has been ripped open above the seal.
To me, this is deliberate.I don’t buy the argument about envelopes being damaged due to large content being pushed into an envelope to small for the purpose. Well, maybe that is an additional factor, but not the root cause of envelopes looking like they’ve been opened by hand.

Agreed, were yours similar to this? This coupled with the delay in transit had me cancelling the card ASAP

Oh thats odd, i was told roughly 5 business days, but i heard it was second class post and knowing my local post, and the delays they have already had – wasnt expecting it this side of april. Unless they are sending your by courier?
Finally, some positive news for me:
3DS seems to be working now (for me), as I wrote on the dedicated 3DS thread elsewhere on this forum.
This was after I logged a complaint.I’ve had the £20 fee refunded and a reasonable amount compensated as a goodwill gesture.
The person who has been handling my complaint has been really good.
It takes no time to get through to someone if using the number on the back of the card. I’ve done this a few times in the past 3 days and get through almost straight away.- This reply was modified 55 years, 4 months ago by .
I managed to add my card to PayPal as well which uses 3DS. It was pretty smooth and added in just a few seconds.
I haven’t had any input from Barclays for this today, so it’s looking good. Will soon try other retailers in the hope that they work as well.
